Was blowing snow with my 1994 KF1800 today and engine got noisy and stopped. I thought maybe fuel gelled but got it in shop and oil was coming out of front Main seal. Only 1100 hrs on this unit. Do you think I can get away with just replacing front Main bearing or does it sound worse? Engine has never used oil and has been well maintained over the years..

Not good.

Is the engine seized?

If not, I'd fill it with oil and run it for a few seconds to make sure you did not spin a bearing.

FWIW-

It's been my experience that when front or rear main seals go, they go gradually over time. They start our weeping and gradually get to the point where you can no longer tolerate the leaking and you fix it.

For a main seal to go from.....all is well......to catastrophic failure.....notta.

Something ain't right and you'll have to dig deeper than just a seal replacement, I'm afraid.

I got the old engine ready to lift out. I am thinking I may be better off with a rebuilt engine rather than trying to repair this one.
What is a good source for a rebuilt engine? I didn't really find anything on ebay.

Re: D722 Engine on KF1800 problem(Problem found)

I pulled the pan. Not Good.. Crankshaft is broken at the first bearing journal from the front!.. What would cause that? 1200 hrs.. I looked at used engines and found out there are many different flavors of D722 engines. Mine is one of the first made. I finally ordered a brand new engine in crate for $3000 complete less the alternator. Rebuilt was gonna cost about $2700 and a crankshaft is $1800 so I got the exact engine bought and it is direct from Kubota warehouse. Only one they had in captivity as all new engines now must meet emission rules. This one is NOS.
If anyone needs a head or injection pump these parts are available. Please contact me at gary@mtcnet.net.
Thanks for all the replies..:)
