Stupid question, I pulled the head on my d1005 to change head gasket and when i went to put push rods back a lifter on #3 is missing? I didn't remove them and I am very meticulous about keeping everything in order. Is there anyway the lifter can drop past the cam??? I know it sounds ridiculous but I am completely baffled!

Wade was the engine running before you removed the head?

Maybe a buddy came by and you had too many brewskies! I think it's still in there, you just ain't seeing it!

The engine was starting and running good, but I knew the gasket was gone because of bubbles in the coolant. I have a brand new shop with nothing but the mower in it and cant find the damn thing anywhere! i pulled push rods before the head came off so they didnt stick. I may have to pat down all the local squirrels!

I found it! after i cleaned the old gasket off, I used the shop vac to suck up the gasket material and damn if it didnt suck up a lifter!!! Now to exchange the wrong head gasket they sent me, piston wont hit TDC with a .057 metal ring hanging in the cylinder.

Been there done something like that. Was trying to fix a cordless trouble light and misplaced my cell phone clip. Two days of searching i remembered i gave up on trouble light and threw it out. Clip went into the trash.

I spent 2 hrs. today looking for the tool that removes the disc from my 4" grinder. Still haven't found it.

I do that all the time  Have someone ask me something and set a part or tool down with out realizing it. Have to hunt for my gloves all the time  Worst was my wedding ring  Was winter and so my fingers shrink with the cold. Worked all day, and realized around three pm my ring was gone  found it the next day in a bag of rags :D Ring sits on my night stand when I go to work from now on.
