Ok, what the hell am I doing wrong here folks? I'm trying to take my mower deck off for the winter and I cannot get the dial to spin down to 0. I was able to move it up to 4 but now cannot get it to budge back down no matter what I do. I've moved the deck all the way, all the way down and in every position I can think of. Have started and revved the engine up and turned it off and still nothing. The manual that comes with it is of no help at all.

Anyone?

I'm done for the day and will now be on travel for the next week but can tackle it again next week.

Take you raise lever and pull it back and hold, and then see if the dial will move, or have someone lift slightly on the deck in the highest position, and check the dial again.

It is possible that you have a bind in the linkage too.

Will it go up in the lock position?

Actually right now it's stuck on the # 4 setting. No moving at all. I tried holding the raise lever but not having someone lift on the deck.

Sometimes the dial will get stuck and be real stubborn. You may have to take a vise grip pillars to the dial shaft to break it loose. I had to do that to mine once. Just make sure that your mower deck is raised all the way to the top and also make sure that you are turning the dial to a lower number. You cannot go from 4, past top. You must turn the dial sequentially to lower numbers.

Also remember that the knob only turns in one direction, so if you miss the setting the first time you need to rotate it around completely and try again (can't rotate backward).

CountryBumpkin,

I just went out to my tractor to verify what I am about to say because I wanted to be sure that I was not saying something wrong.

My height adjustment dial turns in both directions. I can dial it from 0 turning straight through to 0 or any other number again. I can also to the same thing in the other direction. So, I am not sure if that ability is affected by model year, model of tractor or just the way that I have my raising arms adjusted. anyway, if you look at post number 19 in this link http://www.orangetractortalks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=497&page=2 you can see what I had to do to my deck to fix the problem. I honestly do not know if my dial was able to go in both directions before I made that repair and adjustment.
