Prime meaning bleed the air out fuel lines.

Sometimes you need to bleed the system longer that you might think - sometimes the air bleeds quickly other times it take several key sessions. Try again and again - it should fire after a few more.

I agree with @85Hokie , I would keep trying to bleed air.
I'm not claiming to be an expert in bleeding diesels, but my method that works for me is:

1. Pull decompression if applicable
2. Do not engage starter for more than 30 seconds, then cool for 2 minutes.
3. Pre-fill fuel filter
4. Open port/ vent on top of filter housing
5. Crank, wait till fuel, then close
6. Crack open main line into injection pump from filter
7. Crank, wait for fuel, tighten
8. Loosen lines at the injectors.
9. Crank, wait for fuel, close one by one.
10. Disengage decompression valve if applicable.

Hope this helps.
