I bought a used soil screener with 4 leveling jacks. With normal use / wear and tear, the plastic handles on the jack cranks have broken, making cranking difficult. The only replacement option is to replace the entire weld-on jack (cost about $70 each). This does not include cuting off the old and welding on the new. The jacks are otherwise quite servicable despite being a bit beat up. There must be some option for replacing the plastic handle grips. Mabye 3d print new ones? Lathe out of wood/metal? The ends of the cranks shafts are mushroomed to hold them on, so I'd have to cut the new grips in half lengthwise, place them around the shaft, and then screw or wire the clamshell halves together. Or cut off mushroom and cut threads on the shafts to accept a nut/washer. Pics below to clarify the issue.
This forum always amazes me with the depth of knowledge and experience of its members. Looking forward to your creative soultuons. Thanks!

If you take that cover off the top of the jack you will see that you can remove the handle by driving out a roll pin. You can buy replacement handles. Or cut the handle off by the mushroomed end, Thread the shaft, then fashion one out of pipe to put on and hold it with a lock nut.

I think you can remove the wire clip at the end by the mushroomEd part of the handle the slip the plastic part off over the mushroom. Then replace with plastic, metal, wood machined to fit.

I had a similar problem which I solved by using grey plastic conduit from Home Depot…. Boiled in water to soften… slipped over the end of the crank…and let it cool. Good for many years.

This is what vinyl electrical tape was originally invented for. Wrap those babies with six layers and they'll be better than new and last almost forever. If you want the deluxe model, use genuine 3M tape and put heat shrink over it. Trust the PoBoy.
