Hi

I have a 2012 RTV1140 that the coolant temperature gage has failed. I would like to install a direct reading gage that doesn***8217;t require electricity to operate.

Does anyone here have any ideas as to what gage I should get and what size the thread is on the present unit installed in the head?

Thanks in advance

I think you need to try again on your model number! 400, 500, 900, 1100 and 1140. I believe those were cap tube style.

Hi

Sorry about the typo it is a RTV 1140.

This unit is electric with a sending unit in the back of the head just aft of the #3 injector. I want to replace with a cap tub.

Phil, I'm not familiar with your particular engine. I have installed water temp. gauges on a couple of Kubota engines and I ended up getting a bushing to thread in the head. After much searching, I found the local O'Reilly Auto store had a packet of 5 various size/thread cuts of bushings. The cost is about $10. The package hangs on a rack by the gauges, if not there ask the store manager.

I don't remember the thread or pitch, but it was in the bag!!

I went there first because they were closest. Was told they didn't have it. Went to several other stores including NAPA and found nothing. Decided to go back by O'Reilly just for grins, but this time asked the mgr. The only other option I saw was the internet. I didn't want to wait.

I thought the early 900's had the cap tube style because customers were complaining that the temp gauge would not any reading.

Looking at the parts breakdown for the early units. They show only electrical type!

Hello

I have adapted a cap tube gage at the thermostat housing. It does work well.

However it has proven the electric gage does work correctly so now my problem is this.

When running hard in High gear the unit gets up to 230 degrees. I find this to be close to the inferred thermometer I have. Because this only happens after running about a mile and a half we couldn’t produce this when running it round and round the shop impound. This is the reason we thought the electric gage was doing funny things.

Now my question is this temperature out of the normal range?

If anyone wants to know how to adapt a cap tube water gage let me know and I will take some pictures.
