My tractor is different than yours, on mine you just flip the lock, less than ninety degrees and it will unlock. The idea is that you can lock the lever so that you don't bump it, like when your climbing off the tractor with a big coat on in a blowing blizzard, at midnight, while your cell phone is ringing and a black cat runs in front of you. Now your caught on the loader lever, and the loader is lifting up fast, and its full of gravel and ice pellets, and they fall all over your nice shiny hood. I just climb on and off the other side as a general rule. If I have someone new on the tractor, I might lift the loader up a little, and then lock it, so that they can't use the loader when they thought it was the throttle. It doesn't lock your loader arms up, you can't use it to lock them safe while you get under them, because a line could burst and the arms would come down really fast!
I hope you enjoy your new tractor, everyone should have at least one!
