Checking hydra fluid level?

Had the tractor out today and it felt a little jittery.Got out and looked at the hydrastatic level and there was none in the sightglass. When I brought the tractor in and shut it off it came up to half way.When should it be checked running or not? Thanks for your replies.

I check mine with the loader on the ground, 3 pt lowered, and before I start it.

But really, check your owner's manual.

Don't have an owners manual thats why I ask here......just not sure if its low or not.

Shut off not running, neither the FEL or the 3 point's position will make any real difference.

Thanks Wolf,new to me tractor so just getting to know how it "feels".
