I read all this with interest and some laughter. Having been involved in the transportation industry for over 40 years I have heard and seen much misinformation and other stories. Mostly I have been in repair and do some driving in 5 states. I am also a qualified inspector of commercial vehicles. (trained and tracked by the MN state patrol). What I have gotten for feedback is that the officers will pull over a pickup and gooseneck before a big rig if faced with a choice. Plain and simple most of these operators do not have what is required. Do your homework and get what you need before you start operation. Check all the states you go in. Remember that when you cross the state line you are under federal rulings which may not be the same as your state. Good luck and be safe out there,

Exactly. Prior to my retirement from the industry I was the safety and compliance officer for the carrier I retired from.

My mantra was, you can never be 'not too in compliance' I'm a State dnd Federally certified instructor examiner as well though I've let my license lapse. being retired I have no interest in it anymore or should I say putting myself in harm's way....:D
