Afternoon, I just realized that my bx2380 came with 24” rear and 16” front turf tires instead of the 26 and 18 that it was supposed to. Is it safe to assume that the 60 hours I have put on the bx with the smaller tires is no big deal? worried about the 4wd system. Much of those hours are in 4wd.
thanks for any insight you can give.
and I did order the right size already.....

If new - I would go back straight to the dealer ......... and get that corrected!

The difference in rolling circumference is rather large - 18"=56.5" and 16"=50ish.

Typically in 4WD - the front lead the rears - in your case the rears are pushing the fronts!!!

Betcha what happened - the dealer stuck BX1880 fronts on you 2380!

Get it straight - and/or stay out of 4wd until you do.

thanks. That’s what I was worried about. It’s a year old so I will have to see what the dealer will do. bet it will be nada.

any idea how to check to see if any damage occurred without taking the front differential apart?

What do you mean " I did order the right size already..... ?"

This is pure and simple - dealer mistake, an honest one perhaps - but despite being a year old or whatever- their fix, DO not accept anything else.

Hopefully close - GO TO dealer, have pictures of front tires....... ask BEFORE showing - "what is size of front tires on BX2380?" He will say ...... and you will show..... and you will nicely explain that 4wd has been used.

AS for damage to YOUR machine - no real way to determine...... as of now!

I'll bet that's what happened too. But, if you notice, he also has the rear tires off of a BX1880 on it, so maybe the RC math is still within the appropriate limits. Either way, I'd still demand the dealer replace all 4 with the correct ones.

It will make no difference since it looks like you got the full set for a BX1880. I just upgraded the tires on my BX1880. Before buying the larger tires and wheels I checked the part numbers on the front gears for my tractor and the BX2380 and they were the same using Messick's website. The transmission on my tractor has a computerized i.d. tag that says BX2380. Since the wheelbase is the same for both models the fit was perfect. The previous 18hp models had a shorter wheelbase and the part interchangebility might be more problematic.

Here is what I did:

I still think that the larger tires are what SHOULD be on it and the dealer is either pulling a fast one (I hope not) or the simple mistake.

I am curious IF the tranny ratio and rear/front ratios are the same in both models...
Rocket - I am sure you are correct and did the homework.....

however .....

the ratios are NOT the same ....... on the tires

24-16's have a ratio........ .6667
26-18's have a ratio ........ .6923

so is that close enough NOT to cause a problem?

He should get the right tires that he paid for and are more capable. All I am saying is that he should not have to worry about damage due to to the undersized tire set. Here are the differential gears for both models and they are the same. The ratios have to be close enough to not cause a problem, that is what comes from the factory.

Looking back, I was always annoyed that the mmm height didn’t match the height knob number. 4 inches on the knob was 3 inches of grass cutting height. now I know what was wrong there. Ha.

Did you also order a new set of front rims? Or are you going to get the dealer to provide them?

In theory, if you went to a smaller circumference tire and rim like what happened here, if they were proportionately the same reduction, (2380 to 1880), it shouldn't matter, should it?

That might be out of whack regardless. When my tractor was delivered I asked if the reading was in inches and the guy just laughed and said no.

Yes, they are just a reference number, I wish they had used alphabetical letters or cartoon characters as a reference.

Just to close the loop on those of you eagerly waiting to see what happened.....the dealer continues to be solid and will be replacing the tires with the right ones. Says there is no damage potential. Anyway, that’s all folks. thanks for all the feedback and happy holidays to you.

Glad to hear. My tractor arrived with one 6 ply front tire and one 4 ply front tire. Dealer had never seen it before but they quickly swapped out the 4 ply with a 6 ply. A good dealer is worth thier weight in gold when issues arise.
