Hi all, I am looking to purchase my first orange. I am looking a 2005 BX23 with FEL, backhoe, 60" MMM. The tractor has 870 hours and is in good condition. The price is $10,500. My questions are is this a good price? are there inherent problems to look out for with this model? I am going to use it to dig a small garden pond, remove stumps, spread driveway gravel, clear some brush, general wood removal and transport for firewood, etc. I have a lot of new gravel to spread at three of my properties. I own 3 houses with a total of 5 acres.

Bob,

offer less - cash - bring 10K - show 9.5K and see if he/she bites....\
even if you buy it at 10.5k - damn good machine and fair price.

Carefully look up and see if the hydraulic fan has all of its blades. Make sure all joints have been greased - check the spindles on the MMM and belt while you are there.

ask if tires are ballasted -
look at FEL bucket ? worn? paint still there?

look into getting a toothbar......best 250 you'll ever spend.

rear wheel spacers tooo - be careful - the distance you can spread out the rear is limited to the MMM deck...

send pictures.........skeets and I ( hell, all of us ) want to see the tractor porn!!:D:)

It is at a dealer, or corse he tried to talk me into a new one. I think he said it was a rental or maybe that was some other almost new tractors that he said was never really used, I have to go back and get that fact strait. I could find some uses for the backhoe like dig a garden pond and someday want to put in an outside entrance to the basement. Is 800 plus hours near the end of life cycle or are there a lot of problems when a 23 gets that old? Looking at national listings, they seem to go for 12k to 13k with the same attachments and variable hours (600-900). Not much used around here for sale.

photobob,

I know of NO inherent problems with the BX23's. I have a 2008 BX2350 with loader, MMM, and rear tiller. I have not had MAJOR problems with it, and I HAVE abused it a lot.
I would say that if there are no obvious problems with it that would be just a bit high on the price. I would offer $9,500 CASH and they deliver. See what they say to that.
If you do get it, you sill not be disappointed with it at all.
