My BX2230 has started running rough when it is cold. Adding throttle helps. After it warms up, it runs fine. Is there something like an automatic choke? If yes, can I check it out or do I need to take it somewhere? Thanks. Nancy

How many hours on the engine (compression may be a little low due to engine wear, injectors could be dirty/worn) - and have you done any preventative maintenance on the engine (like filter changes, etc.)?

What is the air temp where your at when your starting up?

There is not a choke (like on a gas engine) but there are some things to check.
1) Is the thermostat closed when the engine is cold?
2) Are the valves adjusted correctly?

Some injector pumps have provisions to advance the pump timing either manually or automatically for easier cold starting. I don't see Kubotas fitting into that category.

If it's an indirect injection diesel as most of the Kubotas are, they are harder to start in the cold and take a lil bit longer to get the combustion chambers up to efficient operating temperature due to the higher surface to volume ratio of the indirect injection design vs the direct injection design.

Are you using the glow plugs and for how long? The operators manual should have instructions on how long to preheat with the glow plugs based on temperature. If using the glow plugs does not affect the starting you may need to check the glow plugs.

Nancy,
There is no reason given the temps in Texas this time of year that it should be having an issue, starting or running!
If you intend on troubleshooting this issue and do not have the WSM (Work Shop Manual/ AKA Service Manual) for your tractor, I would first get that as it will give you troubleshooting and location and operation of parts and components.
Then armed with that information we can help you to weed out the problem.
