I'm having a problem with my BX2200D overheating. I have it configured with a mid-mount mower and no other attachments. I went out this morning to mow, outside temp was 70-80. As usual, after a normal warm up period the temperature climbed to the bottom of the red zone. The temp gauge is not lying; if I shut it down it will boil. The cooling fan seems to be working ok and I have removed the thermostat. The coolant level is good with a 50/50 mix; no leaks

Just wondering if these models are prone to overheating or if I have a problem.

Guess my next step will be to replace the radiator or water pump.

Thanks

Scottz I have same tractor and was having same overheating problem. I gave it a bath clean the screen in front of the radiator and the screen around the battery under the steering wheel, then spray off radiator its self with hose. That fixed mine.

I check the screen, it looked clean, but I'm on my way out to clean everything off and try again tomorrow morning.

Thanks

Looking at the radiator can be deceiving......a good wash and clean and you'll be surprised what you see and what the temp gauge does!

Check fan belt too

Was the thermostat in the closed position when you removed it? Sometime when you remove the thermostat it lets the coolant flow too quickly through the rad and it won't cool down.

Start with simple. Flush radiator good. There have been alot of overheating BXs on Facebook group. I do commercial/industrial HVAC and you can not tell simply by looking at a coil how dirty it is. In my world, the amount and direction of air can clue me in, however- your not doing that under the hood of running motor.

If that doesnt help, and while motor is mostly cool and running, can you pop radiator cap and verify coolant flow? If your motor is overheating rapidly, a faulty water pump could be the issue?

I had the same problem. It turned out that the problem occurred when running although the screen itself was clean. The airflow on that tractor is such that any grass or leaves left on the unit below the screen would be lifted and sucked against the screen when running. I had to clean out all the debris trapped in that area as well. Then the problem went away.

Thanks for the help; you guys are great. I found a mat of grass stuck on the screen side of the radiator blocking about 50% of it. Cleaned everything off, ran it all morning and the temp never got above the mid point.

Thanks again.
