Buying advice on M9540

Hey guys, I am new here and I know these buying questions get old. I am looking at a M9540 that has clutch issues. Clutch wont release and the dash display and gauges don't work. The lcd display lights us but has no numbers or anything so don't know how many hours is on the machine. It starts and runs good though. Has the 12spd tranny with the left hand reverser. Tractor has new rear tires but needs fronts. One side of the 3pt upper arm is stripped out and needs a new one. Tractor needs work but I can get it for $8000. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Looking at other tractors of that variety , they are very expensive! You might be able to free that clutch the old fashion way......or split the sucker!

The lights ought to be a simpler fix and the stripped 3pt will not break the piggy bank either.


Some hate the left hand reverser cause it takes their steering hand off the wheel but then again.....

For that price I would show the guy less cash but be willing to spend that 8K in a quick hurry -

Thanks for the reply. I would prolly split it myself to fix it. Just the not knowing the hours kinda bothers me as for the left hand reverser that wouldn't bother me at all. I could get used to it.

If you can do your own work, it looks like a good deal. My brother is a mechanic and for years all we bought were tractors in need of repair and wound up with good machines, still have two of them and he uses them frequently.

I have an M8540HDC 12/12 (same tractor as M9540)and really like it. Our previous tractor had the reverser on the left and I actually prefer it there.

Does anyone know if the tractor has a wet clutch disc. I believe they do. Do they have a dry disc behind them also? Trying to figure out how much it would cost to replace the cost and I know its going to vary as to what I find when I tear into it.
