Looking for a 5' box blade for my B2650. Is there any reason I shouldn't buy this used?
What should I be looking for? I'm a newbie so take it easy on me. It seems landpride is the premium option. I don't care about it matching the tractor, don't want green :) but yellow, red, or rust are all ok with me. It's for work not show, but I want it to function well and have good rippers, etc.
What do I need to know before I start shopping in earnest for this? And what is a fair price for a used box blade in NC?
Thanks again to all for your advice, very helpful for a new tractor owner!

I try to look for any equipment used first. I bought quite a bit within the last two years all used.

For a box blade weight is your friend. Don’t discount the green color either. JD branded is usually Frontier. Every brand will have different “levels” of light duty to heavy duty.
Do you have a truck and trailer to be able to pick one up? Don’t be afraid to travel to get one. I bought a 7’ Rhino with hydraulic rippers earlier this year and made an 8 hour round trip to get it.

Also look into adding an hydraulic top link or even an hydraulic top and side link.
At the moment I just have the hydraulic top link and while I used the standard top link for years it’s much easier to make adjustments on the fly, especially with a box blade.

I’ll add price can vary by brand and even region. I mostly look on Marketplace as most people use that now. Quick search in my area for a 5’ goes anywhere from $350-$1000. Depending on brand and condition.

I would pass on any equipment that has been obviously painted. Rust, cracks, etc all painted over. All the grass around in listing has paint overspray.

Thanks. Yes I have a truck and access to a trailer so I can go get it. I'm not willing to travel 8 hours for a box blade, my time is worth too much it'd be cheaper to buy new at dealer.
Would love to have hydraulic remotes added one day. That's way down the list though, for now I just need something for driveway and trail work that is functional.
Looks like 700-950 for one used in decent shape. What does the Landpride 1260 go for at the dealer these days new?

Well I bought it at about 20 percent of a new one so yes it’s worth it when it’s 7-8k plus tax new.

Tractor house have the BB1260 around 1k to 1200 range. Though that looks like the “lightest” land Pride model.

nothing special about them...but you want one with cutting edges on front and back.

Other niceties (see pic above):

1) Yoke type connection to 3 pt hitch
2) Scarifiers that use thru pins instead of clip style
3) Quick hitch compatible
4) as much weight as possible

Please, please provide a link to a 7-8K box blade. This is something that I really want to see. o_O

A box blade is simply assembled pieces of steel. As long as it’s well designed and constructed (quality implement) and not damaged, it will be as good as buying new. Even a green one can be fixed with a rattle can of implement enamel. 😉

I'm a B2650HSD owner and my BB1560 box scraper is all I could ask for in a Box Blade Scraper for this machine.
It's heavy enough to ballast any load the FEL can lift, and I've given it lots of punishment year round with gravel, soil, and ice/snow.
See if you can find one like it used. The weight is important, this one comes in at 428Lbs, and I add about 75Lbs. by strapping a 3-point trailer hitch MaxxHaul 50039 on top of it.

I think no concern if you can find what you want at correct price.

for a while I was really watching and bidding at auctions, but I got very demoralized…to be fair I am a value shopper, so that is my fault. I’ve never gotten lucky once at an auction, not even close. But i am not willing to pay high price for used and corroded..that’s on me…I can’t see paying high price for something that looks like scrap. However, Nothing wrong with used IMO though. I have an ice plow and a really nice back blade (w/hydraulics) and a brush cutter I picked up used.

I check used first, but if i can not find at good value price, then I go to new. I have have several really good used implements so I think there are some great deals to be had, but you really have to move fast as clean, name brand implements at a fire sale price are gone as quick as you drive past them.

Carry your checkbook or be ready to buy the if price is right…I’ve lost several good deals from being picky or fiddling around with looking for something cheaper.

I think know if no gearbox, hydraulics or PTO shaft to worry about its a no brainer on an implement to buy used if solid construction and pieces and parts in good shape or can be replaced, its a safe bet if you have good eyes and no what looking for.

Also if looking at something like a drill where it requires lifting to make a turn, check functions work (and parts available)

for a simple implement, A little bit of use will remove and rust scale and shine it right up.

Do your research, some patience will pay dividends, and Happy shopping. 🥃

That's basically what I need, except I prefer a little more hydraulics than that offers.
That 84" beast needs at least double the tractor than our B2650. WAY too big, and it will drag the tractor to a halt with half its load capacity. The BB1560 60x15 box size covers the B2650 tracks, and I can vouch for having enough power and traction with R4 tires to scrape, fill and drag around the box quite nicely.

B2650 runs out of traction way before it runs out of HP IMO. I don’t have a box blade for my B, but I’d be cautious to go too big with it…plenty of members on this site with Bs…I’d want some first person expert knowledge before going to wide. I am saying that because I don’t know and the B spins wheels pretty easily. Maybe check with members and also fitment guide from the implement…ie Landpride site…see what width and weight they match to a B…that would BEE a safe bet. (Pun intended 😉).

with ground engagement implements, bigger is not better IMO. YMMV.

Here you go.
Here you go.
Well, there it is, my mistake. But then again, I thought that we were talking about a box blade for a
B series tractor. If you can show 5 foot box blade that would typically be used for a B series tractor that costs $7,000, please do.

Yes but that was my response when I travelled to buy mine for a very good price and after the OP said it wasn’t “worth his time” he would just buy a new one.

If a deal is good I don’t mind going to get it.

I guess my sarcasm didn't come through in text. I'm not buying a $7k box blade lol my budget is $900

This is helpful, thank you so much. I think this confirms what I thought on sizing. Now I need to quit being tight and just buy one
