Can't wait for it to all get delivered! Cutting some steep TN hills and now going to try it with the HST MX5800. I'll post results after I cut 20-30 acres and let y'all know how the HST is for steep/long hills.

You'll love it. I've been doing a lot of mowing with the same tractor and a 1872 mower this summer.

With all the rain we have had down here in the south, a lot of my play time has been curtailed, but I already know that the MX5800 is a big step up from the smaller ones I looked at. I can't see how hills and mowing would be much of a challenge for it.

Yep, you will love it, the MX is essentially a Grand L without all the bells and whistles and I use essentially the same combination, a L5740 with the same cutter and it's great on hills and everything else.

I used the same cutter on my old 5030 and had plenty of power. I put guard chains on my cutter and really like them. I often mow close to a roadway.

Shout out for Dixie Tractor in Cullman AL.
The 2672 cutter wouldn't be available for a month, so they offered me a 2772 cutter for the same $, went and got one yesterday, put my new 5800 and loader together yesterday and delivered it all @ 7:30AM today!

I got to put 5 hours on the meter so far today cutting hills and I LOVE it!
I would NOT take 10,000.00 cash and a MX5200 manual transmission tractor in trade for my 5800HST!

One hill I cut is steep enough that the front tires stay off the ground for the last 100' +\- of the hill with the loader still on tractor the the HST makes it a cake walk compared to the manual transmission MX5100s I've been using. I used to have to steer with brakes, work the clutch pedal, and work lift arms lever to maintain traction and now all I do is sit there fat dumb and happy and work the go pedal. Did I mention how effortless the HST pedals are on these new machines? Lol

I was really worried that I was making a bad decision buying a HST for my intended purpose, but boy am I pleasantly surprised at how great it is!!!

Gil, sounds like you got the tractor for your needs.

When you say, "One hill I cut is steep enough that the front tires stay off the ground for the last 100' +\- of the hill with the loader still on tractor..." I have to tell you, in Kansas we use goats and cattle for that!

Believe me, I question my sanity every time I cut that hill. It would be a great spot to transplant some cedar trees to create a thicket for my white tail deer....

Put some dirt in the bucket for extra weight for those hills.

what bap said. dirt or water bladder or something. I've cut 2 steep hills going up and I used dirt one time, the next time I used a 80 gallon water tank I had filled up for remote watering until I get plumbing done and it worked great at keeping the front end on the ground and a lot more stable. the 5800 was on my short list, I ended up with the grand L at a sacrifice of HP and some lifting capacity.
