We put the block heater in any one of the frost plug holes on the left side of the engine on 3 cylinder "L" tractors (whichever one is easiest, usually the center one). on 4 cylinder models it should go in the back frost plug hole on the right side ( behind the hydraulic pump) The hydraulic pump must be removed for 4 cylinder units. The frost plug opening on the 4 cylinder engines on the left side is a narrow slot and restricts coolant circulation around the heating element.

Don't know if they're easier to install, but ive got an inline heater on mine and ive got to say it works pretty darn good. I plugged the tractor in last night and then went outside to use it about 45 min later and I could feel the heat from the rad cap through the hood. Plus there is also the magnetic heaters. Some are 1500 watts  Wouldn't leave that plugged in for too long unless you like to pay a lot for power.

I use a magnetic block heater, really like it.
Can switch it over to my other vehicles if needed.
Need a metal coffee cup, could keep my coffee warm as well...
