Hey guys. I'm brand new to tractors. I don't have anyone near by to show me some of the basics of maintenance. I'm learning though and getting better at caring for my machine. Most of you have much more experience than I do and I need some help. I recently purchased a 2016 Kubota L2501. A really great machine for a beginner. I recently disconnected my L525 front end loader. That went as planned. Later, in the process of clumsily reconnecting the loader, I didn't have one of the hydraulic hose connectors seated all the way and lost about a half gallon of clear hydraulic fluid before I figured out what I did. I would like add more fluid back to system but I'm having trouble figuring out 1) where to check the fluid level and 2) where to pour in the needed fluid to replace what leaked out. I know there is a large, red cap behind the seat (on top of the 3 point connector) on the back of the tractor. Is that where I would add fluid? Any suggestions or tips would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks guys.

Which oil to use is one of those questions that get asked to ad nauseum. Please take time to search the site. Start with the ULTIMATE readme. There are links there to great info.

Since your tractor is hydrostatic... Most likely any of the Kubota's built that way will use the same fluid so you really don't need to search for L2501 specifically as far as I know...... but..... others know shiat more than me and will chime in if I'm wrong.

CLICK or cut and past this advanced google search into your browser site:eek:rangetractortalks.com best HST fluid make it more up to date by selecting tools. and then time period within the last year

As to WHERE to add it etc. Others will chime in. The ULTIMATE README can also lead you to manuals but am not sure if that one is too new for a free one to exist or not.

Hi Matt welcome to OTT. I think you are on the right track. When I read coach's comment I thought uh oh, the last time I looked for a new tractor manual on the Kubota site, they wanted money to download it, but I was just pleasantly surprised. The pdf was free, and there is a picture of the hydraulic oil fill site on p63.

The link to the manuals is in the sticky at the top of this subforum as coach was saying. Don't feel bad about not finding it, hardly anyone does right off the bat.

Wow, with all due respect... I really hate when people say "search" - not only because the search "features" are lacking on forums... but it's just easier to answer the question.

Yes, the red cap behind the seat is where you fill the hydraulic fluid.

Between your legs, while in the seat, there might be a dip stick (on the flat raised surface) or a sight glass on the left side of that raise surface.

Or I can be a smart alec and say it's in the manual... but who would do that?

I'll look for photos to post of both location for checking oil....
The sight glass is on the left side of the transmission about where your left boot sits. there is a notch in the steel cover over the transmission that you look through to see it. Use a light, it is hard to tell whether there is oil there or not! It should look fairly clear if it is low and slightly amber when full. Try not to overfill it though a little over probably won't hurt.

Wow, with all due respect......
Actually I owe the fellow an apology... I just jumped to the conclusion this was another. WHAT IS THE BEST FLUID TO USE thread... of which there are thousands thread just like ..... "where to get a manual" and similar questions that drive everyone nuts for getting asked so often. Thus my "search" response. At least I added a good educational link before catching on :p

Good catch on sending him to find manual Sheepfarmer. Glad there is one available.

Updated my response further now.

So if you don't have the first photo (dip stick), Should be between your legs in the seat...

Then you have the second photo (no I can not find my L2800 photo, but this is the location of the sight glass).
I really wish they would use dipsticks instead of a sight glass or at the very least use one or the other! It is so easy to get confused.

Thank you, all. You have each given me great information. Especially the pictures!! I hate to admit it but that simplifies things a lot. I looked at the manual for my L2501 but other than some unclear labeling, it does not provide clarity in many areas. I will stay tuned in to this forum for any future questions. The experience of the people here is very valuable. Thanks again!!!

PS. it's helpful at times to know if you have a HST or a DT (gear)... and as I type, I see I don't have it filled in correctly in my profile :( )
This is EXACTLY what I needed!! Thank you!!
