I recently purchased a kubota b8200hst rebuilt the engine e was doing fine put about 5 hours on it since rebuild then Sunday I was going around the yard and it started to grind and pop in the hst unit trans or rear end can't really tell where the sound is coming from I took every cover off the rear end except the sides cover every gear I can see looks great no broken parts laying in the bottom of the housing or big chunks any one ever have or seen this problem it does it in every gear forward and reverse

Yes every range high med low forward and reverse turning pto on doesn't make any difference and 2 and 4 wheel sounds the same it sound like 2 gears are not meshed together good could the range selector be out of adjustment or the diff lock be halfway between locked and unlocked I have jacked up the rear and ran it kinda hard to tell where it's coming from it sat for around 3 years before I got it don't know if maybe something rusted up and not moving as far as it should

If your 8200 is like my 9200, it has a funky range lever arrangement with two levers coming out of the housing and going to the single lever that you move by hand. If they aren't aligned in that lever properly, I could see it preventing things from meshing correctly. Else if it makes noise in all ranges, could be differential. I have rebuilt a ~6200 tractor diff that had not properly adjusted the HST neutral, so they were always jamming the lever back and forth, ended up destroying the diff bushings and teeth.

From what your explaining It could possibly be the range linkage is out of adjustment, but considering it's doing it in every range that is a low possibility.
Does it make the same noise in neutral range?
If it does then it's clutch, propeller shaft and/or joints or HST issue.

if it only makes noise in Low, Med, Or high then I would think problem with diff too.
Pull the top off the rear end and that will give you a complete view of the diff.

I have pulled the top off the diff everything I can see look great it sound as if the range selector isn't meshing right but it does it in every gear only when moving doesn't do it in neutral a friend of mine told.me to put everything back together and change my hydraulic filter

Also could it be a direction valve on the hst unit I pulled 2 on the top but read that those are the neutral valves where are the forward and reverse valves located

Have a workshop manual? If its in all ranges, Im also thinking diff, is a diff lock on this model? I would also try jacking up rear end and try to pinpoint source of noise before Id tear into it.

Also, is the grind noise a constant, or does it speed up and down with ground speed?

That's is a lot of racket going on in there!
I would first split it and look at the clutch, I have heard them make noise like that with a bad clutch disk and/or pressure plate.
You're going to want to split it to work on the HST if the problem is indeed in there.
Be warned that HST's units are very complicated, precise and expensive to work on and are not for the faint of heart! :p ;) :D

I just had it split when I redone the head gasket everything looked great I tried last night playing with the clutch and if you sit their and push and release the clutch pedal it will quit making the noise till you give it some throttle think maybe the clutch disc may have came apart

When you had it apart did you replace the pilot bushing? Did you check the ball joint assy. at the end of the propeller shaft?

As Wolfman said, you just as well start unbuttoning it! There is something in there crying for help.

Not sure on your B8200. but on the B7100 you can get to the ball jt. from underneath.

Once you have your tractor separated. Move the front forward and block safely. (Be sure to have something wedging the sides of the engine to keep it from rocking.) Block the front and rear of the back tires so they can not move. Then you can jack up (you can raise the back half as high as you need it) the bell housing and put wooden supports under it SECURELY. You can then look up from underneath to see the propeller shaft and ball jt.

There is a roll pin holding the back side of the ball jt to the hydr. transmission gear splines. But the shaft will not come out until you remove the grease fitting in the throw out bearing holder, the clutch linkage, the fork holding the holder, and the roll pin in the front of the ball jt., and the bearing holder spring.
