Start by going to Kubotabooks.com and download the WSM / service manual, it will help with understanding the system and identifying the parts of it.

Look at the feed back linkage for one possibility of the issue.

Thanks Wolfman, Downloaded the parts and service manuals, looks like the first thing is to check the hydraulic pressure. One note, yesterday when I got home I started it up and the lift raised with a couple of pauses, put it back down but it would raise again. The previous owner had no problems with it, but it did set for several months without use.

Check the fluid levels as low fluid will cause it to act like that. ;)

Hopefully a fluid top up gets you going, but if it's not low on fluid, air entering the pump can also cause similar symptoms, check the inlet line for rubber hose joins and clamps, (going to the inlet of pump), and also check the suction line strainer if it has one.

Checked the fluid level, it was ok, according to the manual I downloaded thanks to Wolfman it has a screen or filter on the suction line, I'll check that this afternoon. I've ordered a gauge to check the pressure, can either of you tell me what kind of adapter I need and exactly where to hook it up on the control valve, the pic in the service manual is not very clear, thanks guys for your help.

I'm sure NIW will get back to you on this as he has a broad knowledge base and and I expect is intimate with your model.
Did you check his earlier suggestion about the feedback lever?
Is your FEL fully operational to full height/all functions?
Make sure FEL control levers are centred. Does it have quick connects feeding/leaving the FEL valve?

I haven't had much time this week to work on it, I've several references to the feedback linkage and I will look at the manuals and check it out. The FEL on this little tractor seems to be self contained and runs off the front PTO with the oil reservoir in the frame.

Mine did the same thing----new O ring and backer on the piston and cleaned the screen, installed new Kubota hyd. fluid and it works great. It had 90w oil in it----didn't work.
