I am rebuilding the engine in my B7100 HST D (old).
The rebuilding gasket set and parts diagrams in the shop manual show a shim for the head gasket. I cannot find anywhere that explains if or when you should use the shim. Anybody have any definite info on this shim, when or if you need it?

Thanks...

A shim gasket is not a separate item to the gasket but a thicker gasket.

Used to compensate for 'over-milled' head or block.

Unless your head has been decked several times..........ignore the shim gasket.

The shim is to compensate for piston to head clearance when you have sleeved the motor, there are notes in rebuilding manuals to show when you need it.
