first time doing this. I've searched all over trying to find a thorough write up, but haven't found one. So a couple of questions before I try it tomorrow:

1. Are there 3 places to drain the fluid: under the mid PTO, and each side of the rear axles? Those have a dab of orange paint on them. That's what I'm thinking. The bolt that has me nervous is a 14mm bolt about 7" to the rear of the oil drain (19mm). What is that?

2. I have 4 O rings for the strainers. They are 2 different sizes. I'm assuming it will be clear which size goes further in, towards the end of the strainer, and which goes nearest the nut.

Thanks for any help. Rick

Go HERE and grab the WSM ......... it is free and will help you with all your questions and it is a great resource to have.

Scroll on down to page "S.G-7" and see the info you need.

@85Hokie thanks! do they have a workshop manual for the deck RC48-62H? If so, could you send the link? Thanks!

Dont see a freebie on that ........... but Messicks will have the part breakdown if needed.

a report on the transmission change, with a question: I got it done. The good news: fluid was clean, as were the 2 strainers. But here is something baffling: By the book, it takes 14.3 qts = a bit over 3 1/2 gallons. Only perhaps 2 3/4 gallons came out. Then, when I was refilling, I put in a 2.5 gallon container. And then most of 1 gallon ... and it overflowed. A mess. I had to drain a good bit out to get to the right level. Is there a bunch of fluid in the system somewhere that doesn't drain? i'm guessing that's it. Thanks for all of the help.

AS for how much is trapped - no one really knows!!! Most trust the dipstick rather than the "quantity" added.

Run around a bit - you may find that you will need to add a bit MORE back to get the stick to read perfectly.

thanks. I tried to activate mid PTO, rear PTO, reverse, forward, and drive a bit. will see how it goes. right now the level is the top of the flat portion of the dip stick, which is above the line, but I don't know if that's way high. if it doesn't drop down, I'll drain some more.

after moving a bit ..... I would drain off more, overfull is worse than a bit under the line on the stick ;)
