Hi everyone,

today i have bought my first tractor a B6000 :)

I live in the Dandenong Ranges in Melbourne Australia, the area is fertile and steep. I have an acre of land and i hope the B6000 will suit my needs perfectly.

The tractor was advertised as needing clutch and front tyres, but after listening to it before i bought it, i'm sure it is a broken transmission... I just hope it can be fixed.

As soon as the engine starts there is a violent banging noise in the transmission, once the clutch is depressed the noise stops as soon as the main shaft stops rotating. Now the weird part is that sometimes there is drive available to the wheels but more often not. The noise doesn't stop once in gear and moving, the PTO also shows the same symptoms.

I don't have any operator manuals, so i need to figure out all the controls to give a more thorough diagnosis.

Is this a problem others have had? I've searched the forums but haven't found anyone with anything similar.

Here is a pic of her in the back of my ute.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Steve

well its not a dificult to fix that beast,
go at kubotabooks and download the B6000 Service Manual.pdf and the B6000.pdf parts manual,
from there you will see what happens.
as a first thought i thing that the clutch bearing is dead, and that is making the noise
so start from there first and then you continue to the transmission.

Thanks for the feedback. If it is only the clutch bearing i'd be very happy, but if it was the clutch bearing wouldn't it be noisy all the time irrespective of the clutch pedal position?

I just started it up and tried to further analyse what is happening. I high range forward gears are very reliable getting drive, but reverse is almost non existent. Can someone tell me what the lever below the transfer case lever does? It has a very short thow. I don't think i'm getting any drive to the front axle, does this have to be engaged or is it always active?

I ran through the PTO control, and all 3 speeds work, but second was very noisy and the lever transferred alot of mechanical energy, i was able to lock the selector in second so i don't know if this signifies anything.

Cheers

I'm thinking get it split, I've got my money on a bad clutch plate and maybe a bad throw out bearing to boot! ;)

Hi Guys,

the noise is very confusing, when i first heard it, it sounded like a gear tooth or selector fork had broken and was getting chewed up in the gearbox, but the weird thing is that the noise is too consistent for that.

I'll be making some space for it in the garage this week, so for now i'll keep reading and learning. Is there any online guide to splitting the tractor?

I was transporting it in my Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo ute, it is a 2006 model with a 24 valve OHC turbo charged 4.0 litre straight six with a ZF 6 speed auto.

Cheers

Maybe your clutch disc separated from the clutch and it's just rattling in there.

Separating it isn't too bad. It's a pretty simple, logical process. Be sure to block the front and rear wheels to secure them. Use some cribbing (solid lumber stacked in such a fashion it won't come tumbling down) on the front. Block the sides of the engine so it won't rotate over on a side and catch you off balance. Use a floor jack on the rear so when you get the fuel lines and bolts separating the engine you can gently roll the back end straight back to get where you need to be.

I cannot help with the transmission diagnosis.

It must be a case of split the tractor to inspect the clutch and proceed onward from there if necessary.

But I can say that a B6000 should deal with one acre with ease.

I have a B6000 and use it to work 30,000 square metres (including my neighbours land on a contract basis).

I didn't choose the B6000 for this workload. I had the tractor before I bought the land.

On one frequent and specific task it does the job as fast and better than a new 95 horsepower Kubota because of its tight turning circle, low height and narrow width.

It may look like a toy but it is not.

Good luck with the repair.

Thanks D2Cat,

i have just got home from picking up the implements and had to move the tractor, i'm pretty sure it is a transmission problem now. 1st and 3rd either low or high range are fine with positive drive, reverse is now non existent and 2nd is very noisy.

The guy i bought it off said when it is like that leave it for 30 minutes and try again.... he thought it was the clutch, now the way it is going i'm definately leading towards the gearbox, the clutch pedal feels smooth which i wouldn't expect if the clutch/thrust bearing was the problem...

I'll get it in the garage next week and drop the gearbox oil, it should tell me alot....

If it is the transmission, what would sourcing parts be like, any chance of Kubota having gearbox parts????
