B5200 Question

Good Afternoon. Have an opportunity to buy 91 kubota B5200 4wd with 1K hours for $6K It's clean garage kept and I know the owner. It has front and rear hydraulics installed. My guess front hydraulics are an add on kit. Comes with bunch of attachments except the one I need, a front loader bucket. So questions are:

  1. Obvious one is it even possible to find OEM or aftermarket front bucket for it?
  2. Is 13 HP good enough for 2.5 acres of tilling mowing front bucket loading mulch stone etc.
  3. Do those front hydro retrofit kits have a tilt function for bucket or is going to be an even further retrofit to get a bucket on it.
  4. What is the ballpark cost for bucket and fitting if fitting is required.
  5. Are there backhoe attachments that can be fitted to it and how hard are those to find?
  6. How painful is mowing and general usage with a gear shift?
Thanks a lot for your help. Not well versed in tractors and not at all on older ones. All I know that 1K hours on an engine is nothing and that peaks my interest for the price.

Do you mean the tractor has the front end loader (FEL) already and is missing the bucket or are you calling the front end loader a bucket?

Buckets pretty easy to get but the complete front end loader may be difficult to find.

Tractor size is good for your acreage.

You could substitute a dirt scoop and a boom pole (two separate rear mounted implements) for digging and lifting but they are not as functional as a FEL.

Yes it's missing entire FEL setup. It does have front end hydraulics kit which I think was an add on and not standard at the time but arms and buckets are not there. He has a blade hooked up to the front now. So much for that idea. Front loader was#1 missing item on my pain list of chores to do. If they were readily available I would still be coming ahead money wise compared to newer tractors. So I guess my next step is to look for used B2301s? They are about what $12-$18K range?

You can go to Kubota website

type in your tractor model and select the correct model then look at the left side and at the bottom is some “option “ button. That shows all of the different add on implementation that Kubota supplied for your tractor. Get a model number and search for that model. See if you can find your FEL for sale.

There are aftermarket companies that may sell the FEL and backhoe for your tractor. I believe Woods, Kocker are a couple of brands.

Good Luck.

You know what they say about opinions (and what they're worth). Here's another.

6K for thirteen hp? My lawn mower has more than that. Hang a loader on it and it will take all it has just to climb a little grade, much less do any work. To each his own I guess.

You are correct and HP and gearbox trans was giving me a pause but given the fact that my acreage is mostly flat 8K for tractor+FLE vs 12-18K for newer in production model were savings that were hard for me to ignore as well. So I was sitting on the fence. But by the looks of it I might as well jump off of it and accept the fact that I'd be better off spending money upfront vs spending it hunting for spare parts and implements.

Thanks a lot I'll give them a look. But what I am gathering so far that by the time I get what I need and do retrofits I'll be back in 5 digit price range for underpowered piece of equipment and will have heck of a time sourcing parts as time goes on.

The factory loader was the B1630 or B1640 and used on the B5200, B6200, and B7200 tractors. It lightweight and the tractor will handle it fine. Finding one is not going to be easy or cheap.

If a loader is a requirement keep shopping for a tractor that already has a loader on it. I just sold a B7200DT with B1630 loader for about $3K so theres plenty of machines in your price range.

Harsh reality:
It's really hard to find a FEL and more importantly subframe to fit that tractor.
The hydraulics are simple compared top the hard parts.
Building or adapting one to fit it are going to be rough.

$6k for a B5200DT is a the very top if not over the top, of it's price range!
It's about twice what it's really worth.
You're going to be very limited to what implements you can successfully use with that small of a tractor.

Is it a good tractor yes, but it's OLD and rare and any hard parts are getting really tough to find.

Plus 5200 on that :)

Yup. With old tractors, you buy with the attachments you need (other than 3ph attachments, which you can add any old time). If you want a tractor with a FEL, buy one with a FEL. If you have a tractor without a FEL and you want a FEL, sell it and buy one with a FEL.

I added a FEL to my BX. But that was somewhat unique - I got the thing for an absolute steal (under $2K), and I bought a brand new FEL for it (used ones are virtually impossible to find). It worked out OK, but actually it turned my tractor into a $10K BX with a loader. And that was about the going price when I sold it. I would have been better to buy a machine already with a loader.
