Hi all, First time posting here as I've just found this site thanks to Wildfire (4shorts on the other tractor site). We just purchased a B2920 for my wife (I have a NH TC45DA)

The question I have is there any safety interlocks on the B2920 that must be engaged before you can start it. I went to the dealer and the guy wasn't really sure so he went out to a 2620 and sure enough it just cranked right up while standing next to it.

On the NH I have to have my butt in the seat, brake on, and speed selector in N before it will crank. If I stop and get off with out setting the brake and putting it in N the NH will quit. With the new 2920 at the least I would have thought you'd have to be sitting on the tractor before it would crank.

For you with the 2920's is this the norm? As I said this is my wifes tractor and want her to be safe with it. Thanks ALL

Welcome to OTT! This is a great place. I belong to some other tractor forums, but I regard this as the best.
Something must be wrong with that 2620, or you didn't see him press in the clutch. It should have a safety interlock, and won't start unless the clutch is depressed.

Thanks for the welcome Hodge. I can assure you he didn't depress the clutch because I was standing on the clutch side of the tractor and he was stading on the key side. both of us standing on the ground next to the tractor. It was in gear and the brake was not on. Put the key in and cranked it right up.

I've sent an email to Kubota asking them but that's up to 7 days to get a response.

I'm just amazed at how little the dealers here know about what they sell. I do look forward to participating on the forum. Thanks

Maybe they've changed things, but I haven't experienced it; I have to depress the clutch to start my old B7100 HST, and we do the same on my dad's NH3930. I assumed that it was a mandated safety standard, but I could be wrong.
Some of the members here work for Kubota dealerships, plus there are 2320/2620/2920 owners. Hopefully someone with firsthand knowledge will chime in, and sooner than 7 days...

I've only had my b2620 about 6 weeks so I'm still learning myself but I normally start it standing beside it. As long as the PTO is not engaged and the HST pedal is in neutral it starts you don't have to depress the clutch.with PTO on then clutch has to be pressed to start.
I always lock the breaks when I shut mine down but they don't have to be to start, just thought it was a good idea..

Hope you like your B as much as I like mine.

My bx 2230 will start without pressing anything, but pto must be off, trans shifter must be in neutral. It is hydrostatic.

Welcome Greg. Although it don't seem right the way your new tractor starts I'm wondering if my Kubota 5740 will start if its in natural and with out pushing in on the clutch. I'll be back in a minute....................................................

Ok. I'm back. :D if you put the gear selector in natural in the Grand L it still won't turn over. The dash goes "beep" and the display "clutch". I don't know. I just can't see being able to reach in a start a tractor. It just don't seem safe.

For the regular members on here. Greg and I go back as far as 2003. We met because of our same interest which at that time was the Honda GL1800 Goldwing. We've been friends ever since.

Welcome to the site my friend. If you can't get the answers your looking for I'll contact some good guys at corporate Kubota Canada and they'll find out for me ;)

I have a 2012 2920 delivered 10/01/12. It will start with the tractor in low,med or high range. You do not need to be on the seat. You do not need to push in the clutch. It will not start if the pto is in gear. It will stop if you are off seat and try to push hydro pedal forward or reverse.

Hope this helps, sounds like it's normal to me.

That's quite a few folks with the same report, so I assume that it is normal. It would be nice to start the tractor without being on it, but at the same time, I am surprised that OSHA or whoever else that madates rules would allow it.

I think by now it's a safe assumption that it's a normal condition. I just don't understand why there's so many safety switches on the Grand L compared to these machines.
The Grand L's got so many safety devices on them you almost need a Federal permit to start them.

Good thing you're in Canada. Comments like that could lead to a permit needed.
And tractors aren't protected by the constitution...

All, I have heard back from Kubota and the way the tractor is, is normal. The only safety interlocks are on the seat only when the PTO is engaged and on the forward/reverse pedal. If your have the forward/reverse pedal pushed down the tractor will not start.

Sure whould have thought the feds whould have mandated a few more safeties and like Paul was saying about his Grand L, my TC45DA requires at least two things to be right before it will crank, break set and gear selector in N.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I'll get on to the next task at hand and that is to build a grapple and quick attach for it.
