New to me tractor. Is it possible to replace the propeller shaft and couplers from the clutch housing to the HSD without separating the tractor. The shaft is spinning but the tractor won’t move and it’s making noise. The noise stopped for a minutes yesterday sounded like it caught the splines and moved about 20 feet.

Nope not at all, it requires a complete split

That’s what I was afraid of what the approximate shop hours for a job like that can’t seem to zero in on what is should be.

Just a question because I don’t know.

i remember someone in a past thread using a hole saw to access the front driveshaft without splitting his tractor, which was either a B2710/B2910 or a B7800.

Since you are seeing the shaft turn, I assume it is external to the main gear case. What exactly are you referring to?

I guess the front driveshaft is not your issue, and that wolfman is right on in his response, but thought I would ask, as I also have a B2910. I just don’t remember seeing any shaft external to the gear case other than the front driveshaft.

I suppose it may be what I’m calling it. It’s the external shaft between the clutch and Transmission. It’s called a propeller shaft on the parts diagram.

Thanks! I guess you are referring to item 10 on page 75 of the parts manual.

Time for me to crawl under mine an look at what is there. Cannot visualize exactly what it looks like from the exploded parts diagrams.

The thread I was remembering was over at TBN. I do not think it is your issue, but this could be helpful in the futures as the B7800 is the same tractor as the B2910 (without deluxe features).

Dealer quoted 12 hours to do this replacement. Interesting part starts at post #5.

Hours is all dependent on the person working on it.

In 10 Hours I can take the entire tractor apart from the clutch housing back, and put it back together.

If your taking it to a dealer to do the work they should be able to give you a good quote on the work.
Parts to do that repair are fairly cheap.
