Hi all. I have a restored B1500 where the online info lists the PTO speeds as 540/860/1000

mower says max PTO speed 540 suggesting gear 1 on PTO. However this seems very slow and so question is are these PTO speeds right and does it make sense to run a mower at the slowest PTO speed? Seems to work better i gear 3 and I would be amazed if this was really running at 1000rpm

thanks

I think that most equipment is geared for 540 RPM input.

Equipment, especially mowers sound and act like they are doing a better job at a higher speed.
Well they are, until it shells from going to fast then it will do a really bad job at mowing.

At the 540 speed setting are you running it wide open throttle (MAX engine speed)?

Thanks no and now I have looked into this I think I might have been running at 1000 rpm but on half throttle to get to the same place. Will have a go the other way round.

out of interest if most implements run at 540rpm what’s the point of 3 PTO speeds up to 1000rpm?
Cheers

Kubota sells tractors in other parts of the world and not every implement is based on 540 speed (even in the USA). It is easier to have one designed tractor to build and sell than to customize every tractor as it is shipped
