They hunted one down at the dealership, but said my old one had to be destroyed before sending the new engine due to EPA requirements.
Someone in that chain is missing a link.
You only need to do that for emissions controlled engines and warranty purposes.
Yours is neither.

There is an electronic controlled version of the D902, that would need the donor block destroyed ONLY if it was warranty replacement.

I can only imagine how much they want to stick you for that.
I'm going to guess in the $10K range.
You would be better off selling the BX25D outright and buying a new tractor.

Why don't you rebuild what you have, a heck of a lot cheaper.

I wish I could but no skill set for engine rebuilding! Thank you so much for your posts, and for your time. A new tractor with my attachments, cab and hoe plus many more brings that price to around 45,000.00 so a new tractor is out of the question.

Have a good diesel shop in your area? See what they would charge for a rebuild.

Per Kubota TIB-2025-017-R4 , the only out-of-production BX tractor engines that require destruction to order a new replacement are the BX2670 and BX2670-1.
A new engine for a BX25 can be ordered without providing proof of destruction. The engine is still available new.

This is how they are going to get us all. I already see parts for everything old no longer being available. From SCUT tractors to my class 8 truck.

This is how they are going to force you to get rid of all the good old stuff and buy the severely overpriced new throw-away junk.

This is why I didn't buy a larger/more powerful tractor - didn't want to deal with emissions. My new BX23s does not have emissions junk on it... from what I see its totally mechanical - other than the glow plugs - which are manually controlled with the key anyway.

There is more emissions equipment on it than you think! ;)

No dpf, no scr, didn't see an EGR - but i only looked under the hood once. please clarify what you are referring to. After dealing with that stuff on my '22 Cummins 2500 i don't want to mess with any of that stuff.
The emissions equipment on this is in the engine design, head a piston design, fuel injection design, fuel limits.
If there was not emissions limits that engine design and size could easily put out more HP. ;)

I don't care about that - engine manufactures have been doing that before the current EPA regulations to get better fuel economy, leaner burn... less soot output etc. I was referring to all the equipment they slap onto an engine that tends to fail and cause issues. If that equipment didn't effect reliability I wouldn't care.

That wink says you know something. Care to share? ;) ;)
A member on here makes a turbo for the L2501/L2502. I'm pretty sure you can turn up the fuelling and revs on most of the 26hp-ish models to get more power - those same engines are often available in other specs with significantly more power (and therefore with emissions equipment).

I always feel like there's little point. The tractors are specced for a certain RPM, more and you exceed your 540 PTO revs. And many of the tasks you do aren't HP limited, they're traction limited or hydraulic pump limited. So unless you're running a mower constantly, or dragging heavy loads up big hills, it's probably not worth messing with it.

I completely agree,

There are people that want/need a few more ponies, hence the 33 and 39 hp(?) models that people buy.

So I think the concept is that you can "have your cake, and eat it too” ?

One of the big factors in my decision to get the 2501 was the possibility of having to deal with emissions and computers and the other BS, and since I don’t really need the “extra HP” it was a rather simple decision to get the less complicated 25 HP

But it is nice to have aftermarket “HP options” I suppose….;)

To each his own I guess 🤷‍♂️ 🤷‍♂️
