Thanks motorhead, I checked the GPs with my meter and all checked out ok and yes im having a hard time starting. Its acting like its 0 outside when its only 60. Now about the other (old age stuff) u mentioned....im sure i have it ALL as the tractor has over 3 thousand uncared for hours on it by the previous owner:(Dave
Put a volt meter or test light on the glow plug then turn on the key. see if the glow plug looses current as soon as the light goes out. If the test light goes out the same time then temporarily, carefully bypass the glow controller with a HEAVY wire to energize the glow plugs manually. One end of the wier is hooked directly to the battery and the other end hooks to all the glow plugs. DO NOT LEAVE IT HOOKED UP TO THE GLOW PLUGS FOR MORE THAT 10-20 SECONDS AT A TIME. See if it starts by doing that. If it has never been done by you, check the valve clearances. I fixed many a hard starting Mercedes diesels that way as the valves were tight.

Just a quick update to my glow plug trouble. Called Messicks to order some parts and then spoke to the service dept, they said to check the water sensor by the t-stat and measure the resistance. It checked out ok......but in the mean time i put it back together and tried it with out that sensor plugged in. The GPs stayed on for about 6-7 sec and started the tractor fine. Plug the sensor back in and GPs go of after about 1-2 sec. So not sure where to go now but for the time being the plug to the water sensor will stay undone. Thanks for the help. Dave

I also have 1999 3010 HST, and the GP light stays on all the time. I give it about 30 seconds when it is cold before starting and it always starts right up. Is there any harm to running it with the GP light on??? Its been doing this for about 3 months now.....thanks great information about trouble shooting in this post
