advice on a used L3940

Looking at a used 2010 L3940 with FEL(LA724) and a Woods BH90-X backhoe w/hydraulic thumb. 500 hours. $26,000. Pics show tractor in decent shape but some serious fading on hood and fenders and wheel wells. I am thinking it was stored outside. What issues should I be looking for, for a tractor that has been stored outside?

Ask for the maintenance records, the 400 hour service is spendy. Then there is the question of the 3 point bits. In other words are you looking for a tractor or a backhoe?

Biggest problems are water into .....oils - and dashes.

Check all electrical "stuff" look for any oxidation on connections.

You are gonna have fainted paint - that is something you cannot get around, but looking at the paint will tell you HOW long it has sat outside!

Not sure what is meant by "3 points bit". I am looking for a backhoe for clearing rocks and stumps and the FEL for moving dirt from point A to point B. Thanks for the advice of maintenance records and the 400 hour service. I am new to this kind of tractor.

With the backhoe in place the other member wants you to remember to make certain the 3-PT linkages are all there. They can be expensive to purchase if needed. Also don't underestimate the cost of service if needed. Fluid alone will be over $250 plus the filters can be another $200.

Kubota paint fades quickly and a good polish can bring it back to life if it is important to you.

For the price I assume this is a Rops tractor.

FYI. There are several revisions to the -40 tractors over the years. The one with electro PTO engagement are -3.

I bought a 2007 L3940 HST with FEL and 360 hours a few years ago. I gave $17,500 + tax. It was in great shape but was stored outside. The paint was somewhat faded but a good coat of wax brought the color back out. The plastic piece on the back of the seat had deteriorated but I replaced it. So far, no problems. A great tractor!
