When I increase the rpm's for my b8200, it huffs a bit of black smoke. Same when under load. Just trying to make sure that this is normal. It doesn't lose power at all, and pushes through what ever it is doing. Oil and filter are fresh last spring. Tractor starts easy and every time.

Also I have the HST whine. But it seems like it's louder than it should be. Compared to my fathers b7200, it's quite a bit louder. The fluid is full and clean. My zd21 is also extremely quiet when I'm moving. My b8200 whine is much louder at low speeds than high speeds. I want to make sure this isn't something a warning.

What fluid is IN that machine - hydraulic that is?

As for the smoke, I would say that is somewhat normal, what are hours on that machine? If the hours are up there, then I would not worry too much.
Does it smoke when you increase rpms - then ease up? or does it smoke the entire time it is at a higher rpm?

Hydraulic fluid is kubota UDT. In my fathers 7200 I use travelers premium UTF.

Tractor has 600hr on the meter, but the meter doesn't work, so I have no idea. It's 30 years old and has seen action, but I've only had it a year. When I increase rpm it smokes, but then it all but stops, only does very slight barely visible smoking when running at high rpm.

I would say there is not a lot to worry about. Now you can add a little lubricator to the fuel, I have found that my 27 year old B7100 with 2500 hours on it, likes it a lot!;) It smoked a lot once I got it about 18 months ago.......now it still does a wee bit, but no where near as bad as before.

Well I just repurposed 2 55g drums of ATF and 5w-30 that were empty but not clean, and dumped 50 gallons of diesel in them, so there's going to be a bit of oil in the diesel next fill-up.

As far as the whine goes, i'm not fond of it. I thought about dumping all the fluid and replacing it with travelers. I use it in both my zd21 and fathers b7200 and they're much quieter.
