I have some unopened bottles of 85 to 140w gear oil. Would it be OK to use that in my snowblower that calls for 80 to 90w? It says it's good for severe Temps. Not trying to stir @#$%, just asking for my own knowledge. Thanks.
85w-140 may be good for severe heat, as it's got a higher visciosity at operating temp than 85w-90 oil.I have some unopened bottles of 85 to 140w gear oil. Thanks, the 85-140 was here when I bought the property so I figured it was worth the question. I'll get the 80-90.85w-140 may be good for severe heat, as it's got a higher visciosity at operating temp than 85w-90 oil.
So I wouldn't use it in winter temperatures below freezing, like for your snowblower. If it was for a rototiller running in the south of the USA, I'd put 85w-140 gear oil in the gearbox!
