What could cause intermittent power assist?
Seems when my 7610 gets warm, the steering "skips" as I turn the wheel.
The wheels turn fine, but I can feel the steering wheel turn/stop/turn/stop/turn/stop...real fast.
Hard to explain.
Fluid and filter changed last spring, Appx 50 hrs.
Everything else works fine.

(Assuming everything works off of the same hyd.system)

On that model you have a 2 stage (sections) Hydraulic pump, one pump stage that runs the tractor and one pump stage that only does PS.

So you could have a bad pump.

The steering box also controls the flow and pressure of fluid so that could also be the issue.

Your next step would be to get the WSM for your tractor and see if they outline any specific testing steps or repair point as all models vary.
Might end up being a dealer only kind of testing and repair, as the specialty tools needed in some cases can be tough to get.

Thanks for the reply NIW
I was afraid it might be a dealer only diagnostic / repair.

I agree with N.I.W. The pump would be the most likely root cause in your case. In rack and pinion steering system applications, the condition is often within the power rack assembly due to internal leakage(s).
