50 Hour Service Questions

My L3901 HST is at 50 hours. I bought a Kubota filter kit off ebay.

I was just looking at the FSM and it shows:

Clutch adjustment
Trans oil filter
Engine oil
Engine oil filter

As required.

From all the posts I read, I was under the assumption that transmission oil is changed at 50 hours.

I called my dealer to get fluid prices and asked about the trans oil change. They said to follow the service manual. The manual states the transmission oil to be changed at 400 hour intervals.

What is the correct process?

I have a 2012 L4600DT and my manual looking at it now says change filter at 50 hrs and then every 200 hours, hydro fluid every 400 hrs.

This is always a big debate. Manual says just the filter. Most owners say change both the filters and the fluid. I changed the fluid as well as the filter. Your choice really.

When you see what comes out of it you'll be glad you changed the fluid.

Just remember if you want it to perform as it should go back with SUDT2 fluid.

I thought just the opposite... what a waste of good hydraulic oil. The filter catches all the crap... I wish I did not change mine - IF I were to do this again, I would rather just change the filter at 50 hours - then replace the oil and filter at 200 hours.

For the 39th time in my 4 years on this forum - I'm with Bulldog on this one.......



In fact, I changed my BX fluid at 38 hours, and will be changing it again before snow flies at ~250 hours.



Not being disrespectful at all, but what is a waste to some is insurance to others.....just different opinions folks have about this stuff.

Maintenance of any kind is never a waste. I respect anyone's decision to neglect their machine. They paid for it so it's their right to make the choice not to take care of it.

Myself, it's much easier to pay a $1000 to change oil than it is to replace a $50k tractor. I want mine to last me the rest of my life and still be in good enough shape to serve my kids for years as well.

Must have been the same guy that called me the other day, 770 hours on his and never had maintenance. Wanted prices for 1000hr first service.....

1000 hr first service. I'm guessing you don't get many request for those.
