I get the biggest chuckle out of "Food Plots". :ROFLMAO:
Up here the wildlife just snack on the yard naturally. 😁
No need to bait them in. ;)

Chuckle it may be, there is not a crop production(other than hay) within atleast 20 or miles of my place.
We just went through 9 months of extreme drought, 6.35in rain during that period. Year to year, we're still lacking 19" of rain not received compared to the yearly average rainfall amounts.

Not only that....but folks tend to forget how diverse Texas is. Where I live (Deep East Texas) it is lush and green (most years). South Texas (Brush Country) has natural forage that is good for deer but if you don't plant food plots you'll never get the deer out of the brush.

The Hill Country can be nothing more than Cedar Trees and Limestone rock in places. West Texas has varied terrain depending on how far West you go.... can be rugged canyons to desert. Lots of reasons to plant food plots in this State.

Very diverse eco systems.

I remember one day in October mid to late in the 90's, military convoy started Ft. Polk headed to El Paso, I opted to ride charter bus, lol. The guys driving the military vehicles went to a rail road yard. It was 100* that day, heat index 106* when we stopped at gas/break stop near Winnie, TX iirc. And by the time we got to El Paso, just before midnight, it was snowing, we were still in Texas!

Yep, not hard to do. Depending on your destination and route its possible to travel 800 miles in Texas and not get out of the State. But that's why we express a trip in 'hours' drive here....not mileage.

A 5-6 hour trip in Texas isn't considered anything unusual. Longer trips (East to West or South to North) across the State can easily take 12-14 hrs of driving (not including stops).

The rut is in the early beginnings here, doe and buck groups getting smaller or just singular animals. This guy showed up yesterday morning. Doe are being more cautious and on alert.

He gets a pass till next year.

Eat your oats in the morning, help keeps your cholesterol in check.

These bright nights lately from the moon has the deer coming mostly at night eating on the food plots.

Hogs have not been coming around too much, been keeping pressure on them.

Thanks for sharing those photos, I'm an active food plotter up here in Michigan, our problem is access to water in the summer and the fact that it's hard to keep the deer off to give the plots time to grow. It seemed a dry few months after planting.

Those boar are pretty big! I'm looking to plan a trip for a go at the hog hunting in Texas, any recommendations for opportunities down in your area?

Thanks. As for recommendations, I honestly don't know, there are all kinds of commercialized hunting places. But if your blood and ballot looks the same color, I'd let ya hunt here Fo, Fo-free; Texan generosity. I actually hit one of these big sows/boars last night as well, but I wasn't able to locate the hog this morning.

The food plots are about died out, and were back to needing some much needed rain here in South Texas. The county Judge is supposed to enact a burn ban today. I will grab a few pictures of plots later today or tomorrow.

Picked up Nacho 2022 from the taxidermist today. I got some more Nacho's on camera for 2023. Acorns are just now starting to drop. Some trees have healthy acorns vs some others have many underdeveloped acorns from the drought.

What’s the spread in inches on a buck like that down your way? 👍
19.75in inside
159BC total
5.5yrs at 195lbs

The antlers get much bigger further South(around King Ranch), in the Golden triangle area is what it's called.

I'm in a 5 deer bag limit county, 5 deer no more than 3 bucks.
Sept 30 to Feb 4th, no black out dates.
