Dad’s tractor we have lots 4wheel drive. Jacked it up on 4 stands whe It running and engaged you can feel and hear something rattling in the tub. We are going to pull the shaft. What might we find?

What is a “tub”?

A large ussaly oval shaped vessel used by some to bathe in, while others may use it for proofing moonshine. They are commonly found lying around the front yard in certain areas of the country.

Around here, they also use use them for flower beds, especially the harvest gold, avocado and lilac colored versions.

What is a “tub”?

In context, it’s a colloquial generic name for a case of some sort that contains gears in an oil bath. Could be a transmission case, differential case, transfer case, gearbox housing, etc.

Kind of doubt you’d be able to find it by that name in a parts list/diagram.

th 4wd was making noise when i bought this ol' girl, but it turns out there's a splined shaft underneath that drives the front axle and that was stripped out - easy fix and not terribly expensive. it'd 'clunk' when the shaft would slip, and i was having some anxiety about rebuilding the transmission before i found that. parts diagrams - kubota.com has the same ones messicks has.
