After fighting to connect the ballast box to the 3 point a few times, and after reading some posts from others on here about their use of quick hitches, I decided I needed a quick hitch. Since I enjoy getting out in the shed and making stuff I made this too to standard Cat 1 dimensions. Standard here means about the average of the dimensions I could find online for purchased ones.

I had to move the lower pins on my homemade ballast box, and may need to modify the second hand rotary hoe that I haven't used yet, but thought standardizing things to suit a Cat 1 quick hitch wouldn't hurt.

So far it seems to work and I'm pretty happy with how it turned
out.

I look at your QH and I can see the amount of work that went into it. Better built than much of the stuff on ebay and such for sure. You might have got a little carried away with a drill when you made the top hook adjustment brackets though. 😂

Thanks. Maybe I did, but I figured it would be much easier to drill the holes now rather than wish I had later. If I never use them all it won't really matter.

Out of interest, did you buy or make that top hook?

I made it from 25 mm mild steel using a drill press and a Bosch steel cut-off saw.

It was mostly your posts about quick hitches that got me interested in them enough to think I needed to try to build one, so thank you for your posts.

Nice work on that hook. It's a bit deep I think but you can always cut it down if it turns out to be a problem.

I'm a QH fan for sure but never built my own! I have a QH10, QH15 and QH20 and used to have a QH05 and for the most part they remain on the tractors. If you combine them with top-n-tilt they're unbeatable. I have used to use two magnetic bubble levels on them in order to know if the box blade is level and plumb, but recently noticed a level in my toolbox that made me think ... duh! 😂 You can see it bungie strapped to the QH20.

Thanks, it's appreciated.
NP…I really value craftsmanship and creativity as it’s easy for anyone to throw stones.

When someone crafts a solution for their application (solves a problem), that’s great and I appreciate these type of threads. It doesn’t take much talent (beyond spec and negotiate) to buy a solution. Craftsman creates a solution!

Good point on the top hook. I've never used one so no idea what really works, but as you say, I can modify it if it becomes a problem.

A hydraulic top link is something I may add at some stage.

I like your idea on the level too.

For now, the next things on the list are hydraulic steering, a single tine ripper, then back to modifying the FEL to fix the dump over-travel and change it to mechanical self leveling, finish the bucket, make a bit on tooth bar for it. Not sure what order I'll do these....probably the easiest first, the ripper.
