Howdy. I have a new L3301DT and want to do some plowing. I need to buy a turning plow. I looked at some today coming up for auction. I am not sure my tractor will pull a 2 bottom plow. .... any of you guys know if this would be a good plow or must I get a single bottom turning plow ?
Thanks for any info......Pete
ps: I have 33 HP:)

Your owners manual says the maximum size implements for your tractor.

IIRC it says a 2 bottom 12"

Also keep in mind with ground engaging implements tractor weight is also important.

I had no issues pulling a single bottom 14" plow with my 3301.

What kind of soil do you have. I have a 3301 and a Ford 2 bottom 16 inch and have no problems with it. My ground goes from clay to sand. Once you have it set right it pulls easy. These tractors are tougher than most give credit to them. You just have to use your head to work safely

Thanks ZLoad and every one else. Great article ! I am going to an auction tomorrow where I know at least one 2 bottom and 3 single bottom plows are going to be sold. Gonna bring my tape. Probably bid on the 2 bottom for sure as it doesn't look too big to me. The single bottoms I saw look good too...not real big.
As one poster pointed out...in my manual it states my tractor is rated for 12" in 2 bottom and 16" in single bottom. I will keep an open mind, tho, if I see a good deal...ha ha.
Thanks gents
Pete

You can always remove a bottom if you buy a plow and it turns out to be too big.

Good advice on removing a bottom. Don't need to tho....got me a 14" single bottom plow. I have the clay soil here in South MS and it is hard. I won't need to plow until later...maybe next year. I will check out the plow then. Got this plow for $246 total at the auction. It is well used. They sold 2 more like it and a double bottom also...plus a lot of other stuff. Very interesting auction. Thanks, Pete

I would clear it and plow now if you can. Let the soil sit over the winter and soften up and allow the organic matter to breakdown. IF you have time that is.

Congrats on the plow. No pics? =]

On most moldboards one can measure from center of beam that bottom attaches to the center of adjoining beam. Also as previously mentioned measuring from back of landslide to outside RH tip of share point(RH meaning standing behind plow)

That's how I measured my one bottom plow. Landside to outside of cutting tip, and it was 13' , so I reckon that means nominal 14". My tractor will pull it so I am happy. I have rye grass planted in the small field I want to plow. I had to disk that sucker about 7 times. Next year the plow will get it...ha.
