    Choosing a used tractor

Thanks guys. Timber wise, I only use about two cords per year. Any more than that will be hobby use, playing in the woods I guess you could call it! Around my area there are lots of woodlands that don't see much management, and I like to go and help out. I'm thinking of fitting a little 2 ton...

    Choosing a used tractor

Hi guys. Very long time no see. I had a B4200 years ago and joined up for advice, you were all really helpful. Well things with work changed and I sold it to part fund a Unimog project. It's been great fun but now it's time for the mog to go and a slightly larger compact tractor to come in. I'd...

Changing the shaft hydraulic arm, is it a simple job?

That's a good idea Ron, I'll have a look for those. Are the factory manuals good or are there aftermarket prints that are better?

Changing the shaft hydraulic arm, is it a simple job?

I have a friend who trained to be a plant mechanic some years ago. I think I'll take your advice and at least have him here when it gets taken apart so he can make sure I don't do anything daft! The trouble is I'm keen to learn - I'd really like to do it myself or at least be involved. While I...

Changing the shaft hydraulic arm, is it a simple job?

Hey guys. Some of you may remember a few months back I posted about the link arms on my 3 point not being level. It was suggested that the shaft hydraulic arm could be twisted and you were right, it is. I happened to stumble across a part on ebay that will fit so have bought it, but how easy is...

Can I use a chain as a top link?

I just need to move a small saw bench from where the pallet courier drops it across the garden to the garage. Once I can get a measurement with the implement in place I can order a top link - they're only about £20 so no bother. The next thing I need to work out is the PTO shaft. When they are...

Can I use a chain as a top link?

Brilliant, thanks. I was pretty sure it would be ok as long as it's only used with an implement that's not going to swing upwards, ie when working on slopes. I figured it's best to check though. I don't want to make assumptions and break something or get hurt!

Can I use a chain as a top link?

Hey guys. As I'm new to tractors I thought I'd better ask this question. I've just bought a saw bench to fit to my tractor but I don't have a top link. Can I use a chain instead as a temporary measure? All I need to do is lift the bench and move it to the garage and it's on flat ground. I'm...

    B7200 Advice

Well you've managed since '87 with no power steering so that's not really an issue unless your health is forcing you to make life easier? If the above doesn't come into it then I'd put some money into what you have. It's a good tractor from what I've read (I have the smaller B4200) and to be...

Adapting a FEL to fit my tractor?

My welding skills are pretty basic if I'm honest! I do have the backup of a friend who is quite a highly qualified pro fabricator though, so I may well call him in to do the structural welds for me. What I'm worried about is finding a loader of the correct size. I don't want to overload the...

    Kubota's for Work or Play?

I'm not really sure where I stand on this. I bought my B4200 for work, but only kind of! I had a perfectly good ride on mower for my one and only contract that needs a machine that large. But... I wanted to run a sawbench at home, dig stuff up and perhaps load the odd pickup with woodchip which...

How do I tell which mowing deck I have?

I just got back from my mowing job and the newly serviced deck works a treat. I was having to mow in low 3rd to get a decent finish but now it will cut well in high 2nd. The grass isn't long so finish is everything - I was tempted to try high 3rd but figured that may be pushing it a bit. :D

Adapting a FEL to fit my tractor?

Hey guys. As I've bought such an old machine (B4200) I'm having real trouble finding a used FEL to fit. There have been a few for sale not too far away that fit similar sized machines so I'm wondering how easy it would be to adapt one to fit mine? If I was to buy one that was fitted to a...

    new fel more pics

That looks to be a really good quality build. Top job! I like the hooks on the top of the bucket - to move dumpy bags (that may be a British slang... Those ton bags with four handles) I assume? I wish I could do what you've done. I'm looking for a loader for my old B4200 but can't find a second...

How do I tell which mowing deck I have?

Well I finally got around to having a go at the deck. I've been away for a week and browsing the site on my phone but in the meantime my father has been spraying releasing fluid on the deck bolts every day. I set to them earlier with an 18" breaker bar and block of wood as suggested and two of...

How do I tell which mowing deck I have?

Thanks guys. Would it be a bad idea to apply heat to the bolts? They look pretty well seized!

How do I tell which mowing deck I have?

Oh and one last thing. Getting those big blade bolts undone! Is there a special tool for it as it has a large hex depression in the middle for an allen key and also the hex bolt outer? It looks designed to take a massive amount of torque to shift it but I can't find a spindle lock? I can't shift...

How do I tell which mowing deck I have?

Hi guys. I finally got a bit more free time to play with the tractor today. I decided that as I gave it a basic health check when I got it the next important step would be to have the cutting deck apart and check that's ok (up until today I'd only given the main engine and gearbox a once over)...

    Hydraulic pump specifications

Hey guys. Having read through all the manuals I have for my B4200 I cannot find any mention of the flow rate and pressure of the hydraulic system on my machine. I would like to run a log splitter with it and although 12hp is enough power to run a pump of the necessary size, I'm unsure whether...

New to the forum and need some help!

Thanks Joe. I didn't really consider being able to shock load the linkage, that makes perfect sense. The linkage is very nearly level so I'll not worry about it, I can put the turnbackle in my lathe and modify it slightly so it has some more adjustment and then all will be well.
