    Tractor operating for new owner

For using the loader, especially for dirt work, add weight at or behind the rear axle. Filled tires or a ballast on the 3 pt hitch are common. Even the box blade helps but you'll probably want more weight than that. I knew it was needed on my l2501 but I was still surprised at how much it helped.

What did you do to or on your Kubota today?

I cut and pulled a number of cedar trees just as a matter of cleanup. This time I had to pull them from down steep embankment up to the gravel drive. I'm convinced they grow faster than I can cut them. Pulling a cedar tree https://photos.app.goo.gl/Sd9aSaEyr7WTw2bB8

I installed a new tachometer cable on my L2501 ...at just 260 hours 😑 It's a straightforward install. Send me a message if you want details.

Question(s) about tending a brush pile fire with the tractor.

I have a few "life tattoos" as I like to call them. I'm missing part of my right thumb from general dumbassery in my dad's butcher shop. I wear a couple parallel scars under my chin from a motorcycle + barbed wire incident. But the most painful (by far) was burning a significant part of my...

Question(s) about tending a brush pile fire with the tractor.

Thanks everyone for the advice and comments. So far I the answer is "I'll inevitably burn my tractor, my home, and family and die in a fiery inferno" ...or "It'll be fine" ...or something in between. ;) Believe it or not that's exactly what I expected but along the way I definitely...

Question(s) about tending a brush pile fire with the tractor.

I failed to mention that I do have a fire extinguisher on the ATV nearby. Always have a backup plan. 👍

Question(s) about tending a brush pile fire with the tractor.

That was more or less my reasoning. Of course I'm dropping new wood from above so there's definitely a few seconds of pretty high heat on the grapple. Maybe I should just push it in from the side lie others have mentioned.

Question(s) about tending a brush pile fire with the tractor.

Using the bucket vs grapple makes sense but I'm simultaneously unraveling the huge brush pile. I'll have to think through my plan.

Question(s) about tending a brush pile fire with the tractor.

I don't know if I'd be good at it but it sounds fun. 😆

Question(s) about tending a brush pile fire with the tractor.

I have a few big brush piles that were on the property when I bought it. They were left behind by a dozer so it's full trees with root balls. Most 6-8 inch trunks but a few up to 14-16". I've spend a few afternoons moving it to a "neutral zone" to burn since it's piled in a place that I...

What did you do to or on your Kubota today?

I got rid of some of the brush the previous owner left behind. And there's a LOT where that came from. One of the reasons I got the grapple. Such a handy gadget when dealing with brush! 🙂

You are exactly right. Any given piece of weight will almost certainly be located other than at the COG, and will therefor shift the COG. I was so focused on the importance of the resulting COG that I didn't even catch my error. I'll keep it simple. Keeping the ROPS up and COG low are...

"It will raise or lower the COG accordingly." Pretty sure I said that.

    A perfect interpretation!

The engineer in me HAS to correct this. Weight will not be above or below the COG. It will raise or lower the COG accordingly. So weight is your friend as long as it does not raise the center of gravity. There, I feel better now. ;)

    Hills

My property is very hilly too and it limits what I can do for sure but I've learned, and as others have said, going straight up/down is WAY more stable than anything that tips the tractor to the side. If it's really steep and/or wet there's still a chance of losing traction and being at the...

    Is this a water well?

I really don't know but it looks like it is. I mentioned in one of my posts above that my shutoff is in a box up closer to the house and appears to use a more typical key. This is on some property (10 acres) we bought next door that once had a house but I never found the meter/shutoff for...

    Is this a water well?

Looks like someone already took your advice, asked for or not. :D And yes I would prefer to avoid hitting that with my rotary mower. The PVC would just sheer off no doubt but no telling where that cap would end up.

    Is this a water well?

My meter and shutoff are in a rectangular box and on my property but just about 40-50 feet from this. The new property had a home on it that I tore down but I've never found a meter for it. My guess is that this is a shutoff for both or more properties.

    Is this a water well?

Drumroll.... First, I did NOT drop my phone in the hole but I did get a picture taken! It doesn't look like it uses a church key but it does look like a shutoff of some sort. Oh and for the record that's about 5 feet under ground.
