Has anyone filled their tires with fluid and regretted it?

You all convinced me to make a ~650 pound ballast. I tried it today and I'm a convert. I underestimated how much it would improve my 2501's ability to do dirt work. I might still fill the tires, but I'm sure not giving up the new 3-pt ballast.

Question for those of you who have made a homemade barrel/concrete ballast

So here's the end product. Worked like a charm other than swaying back and forth a little and there's an easy fix for that.

    Ballast Box needed?

I made a DIY ballast by filling a plastic barrel with concrete. There are many videos out there showing what others have done but if you're interested I'll share how I did it. FYI I did it with no welding and minimal metal cutting. I haven't used it much yet, just poured the concrete a...

Question for those of you who have made a homemade barrel/concrete ballast

That is definitely a more versatile solution. Mine is pretty much a bottom-dollar answer. I bought the barrel for $20, the draw bar for $25 and about the same for the top link bracket. I have more in concrete than all the hardware. One of those carryalls would sure be nice to have around...

Question for those of you who have made a homemade barrel/concrete ballast

Ah yes, now I get your confusion. I really should have included that the barrel is made of plastic.

Question for those of you who have made a homemade barrel/concrete ballast

It might not matter. My question alone is pretty much admitting that I don't know. I know that concrete can take massive compression. But that isn't how this is going to be used. In this case 700 lbs gets bounced around on a single metal bar through the concrete. I feel like if I...

Question for those of you who have made a homemade barrel/concrete ballast

Thanks for all the input everyone. I'd love to go test it out in the morning but I'll be patient and wait until the weekend. My real concern is that I don't know much about reinforcing concrete so I pretty much guessed using scrap rebar I had around and the all thread I used to attach things...

Question for those of you who have made a homemade barrel/concrete ballast

I've put my links and such together and added the concrete. I'm just not sure how long to wait before I lift it. I've read everything from 2 days to a month. So how long did you wait and did you have any issues? Thanks.

Has anyone filled their tires with fluid and regretted it?

I love that my comment stirred up such a great discussion. I appreciate all the input and info and I'm definitely more knowledgeable for it. So I've learned that the only downside that matters to me is losing the inability to handle a filled tire if I get a leak. That's a concern as I don't...

Has anyone filled their tires with fluid and regretted it?

Ok so a question for those of you with filled tires. How do you fix a leak? I have a tire shop near by but I doubt they're willing to manipulate a several hundred pound tire and I SURE won't want to try. Also, I like the idea of adding weight to my box blade. Is there a reason I can't just...

Has anyone filled their tires with fluid and regretted it?

Ah yes. I remember Archimedes and his levers. Thanks. So far I have tended to work with my box blade on the hitch but it's just around 350 lbs. Not insignificant when out on a couple feet on a lever arm but still not ideal.

Has anyone filled their tires with fluid and regretted it?

Why's that? Not trying to be difficult, just don't know and trying to learn.

Has anyone filled their tires with fluid and regretted it?

I recently acquired an l2501 and added a grapple. It didn't take me long to recognize that some weight in the back would be beneficial. I'm debating filling the tires at some point but I wanted to know if there's any downside to it. Of course I get that the tractor is simply heavier which has...

Very nice! Thank you. I'll look into doing something similar.

Pictures? I'm interested in something like this as well. Doesn't seem too technical but I would like to see how things fit. I literally need a box for my gloves. :D

in the market for a grapple

In the last week I installed the Summit Hydraulic 3rd function kit and a LP 0660 grapple on my 2501. It was not completely without headaches but overall not bad. At least a few of the headaches were self induced. As of earlier today the grapple is working fine and I've stopped the hydraulic...

What did you do to or on your Kubota today?

Oh yes, the mess has been cleaned up and I'm very happy with the grapple. Didn't mean to make it sound like I'm not. I already had a reason to be irritated at that dealer so I was just venting a little.

What did you do to or on your Kubota today?

I converted my L2501 to a quick attach and added a grapple. The grapple the dealer delivered without tightening the hydraulic fittings. Now to go clean up the mess.

What did you do to or on your Kubota today?

I made it really shiny! By that I mean I didn't do a final check that all the hydraulic fittings were tight before I pressure tested my 3rd function kit. What a mess. The good news is that it was a simple fix and my 3rd function kit is installed. I don't have a grapple so can't really...
