B 1700 Hard start, black smoke pouring out exhaust

'Decompression knob".??? The topic of the tractor came up on an unrelated visit, I had no clue that there was an issue....thus was completely unprepared other than opening up the air cleaner, & a brief attempt in cranking....What I found unusual was the thick black smoke coming from the...

B 1700 Hard start, black smoke pouring out exhaust

I do understand that the starter should not be cranking till it starts, but with this situation there's a tendency to over crank it....There is also the consideration of the operator, she might not have all the instincts of a mechanic....She checks the oil, fills the diesel tank & away she...

B 1700 Hard start, black smoke pouring out exhaust

Yes it does clear up after starting...So there's really no way to diagnose it other than change the injectors?, also once it has been running & shut it down for a couple of hours it restarts fine like there's no issue...I agree no aftermarket.....always OEM..... Thanks

B 1700 Hard start, black smoke pouring out exhaust

Actually the tractor isn't mine..it belongs to a widow who has been mowing herself the past several years...I did ask her if she ever used 'either' - she asked 'what's that'?...so that was a good sign....I did pull the cover on the air cleaner to see if some mice made a nest, it was debris free...

B 1700 Hard start, black smoke pouring out exhaust

Have a B1700 with about 900 hours that can almost crank a battery dead before firing when cold......Will start OK at operating temperature, but overnight hard start. I'm puzzled by the black smoke coming out the exhaust while cranking ???

    Water in trans case B6000DT

You had 32 views & no replies...I'm no expert but what I would do is a flush...Drain, change filter if it has one, clean the screen if it has one.....fill it with the cheapest oil you can find, run it a bit, drain, & refill with the fluid as recommended in the manual....I don't think you can do...

    50 Hr service...

Trolling ?? What ever that means......No I have an expectation & quite honestly I'm a bit shocked and disappointed. I just don't find contamination of any sort, to be a norm & acceptable.... For those who work long & hard to buy a "toy" of this nature, should not have to assume the 'cleanup' of...

    50 Hr service...

The more I'm reading the more concern I have...The argument can be made for diesel over conventional gas, but not seeing the 'direct relationship' of the Kubota diesel engine to the HST transmission....with regards to fluid. Some questions were raised regarding the change of fluid to the front...

    50 Hr service...

Excuse my ignorance here but, There's all this chatter about metal filings, shavings, ect and I don't see where anyone questioned or is concerned, other than its normal ? - Normal ???... I have to equate with other mechanical things that I have, and nothing else that I own or have owned...

    50 Hour Service

I'm seeing the general consensus is to change the oil....I get that the filter & screen picks up the shavings but I would think there still would be fragments...We're talking 50 hr. service, this relates to rather brand new tractors...With a $20k & up investment, where is the logic in saving...

    50 Hour Service

As a side bar...I worked part time at a small engine repair shop, & one day a 'B' series Kubota came in to have a new mower deck replaced & service. This tractor belonged to some kind of a non profit organization & did not have an actual owner, yes as you can imagine it was run hard....Anyhow...

    50 Hour Service

D2cat... 'There are no contaminants in a transmission to need filtered out.'.......I fully agree about combustion gasses, but question the statement on contaminants....The small metal particles that accumulate on the screen is a good indication whether the fluid has to be changed or not...

    50 Hour Service

Still looking for feedback.....One thing for sure, the screen needs to be pulled & that will tell a lot of what's going on inside.....also not really understanding changing the filter without the fluid....Does anyone change the oil filter on their car & not the oil ???......SN... 2003 Mercury...

    50 Hour Service

I know this question must have been asked a 1000 time before but....Which is the correct recommendation for servicing the transmission....Change the filter & clean the screen.....but what about the fluid ??? - Thanks

    Trailer Hitch for BX23S

I have to agree, that using the backhoe/bucket is not an ideal hitch. With regards to moving a log splitter around, which mine is a HD splitter with a donut welded on the front to accommodate a pintle hook....I'm thinking the best way to do it is mount a hitch to the front of the tractor on the...

    Trailer Hitch for BX23S

OK - Some great home made manufacturing projects....So what I'm seeing is any type of a hitch is mounted to the bucket....My towing needs are that of a HD log splitter & trailer load of split wood to the wood shed....I'm guessing this all puts stress on the backhoe unit?

Well... That's my intention to crack open a fitting....but freeing the back & forth control valve should have relieved the pressure or is there somewhere else I should look for - Eye protection....great suggestion.....Thanks

    Log Splitter Hydraulic locked up

Have an old home made log splitter that has been dormant for several years. The Old Briggs fired up no problem & I split 5-6 logs everything was fine....Several days later I noticed the ram was extended about 8 inches I went to start the motor & it was locked, as with the handle to move the ram...
