I agree with wolfman, smooth shiny cylinders are worn down along with the pitting, they should have a nice crosshatch visible. The cross hatch from honing actually allows oil to be held in the "scratches" which lubricate the cylinder. The cross hatch also seals the rings to the cylinder walls...
