I am thinking there may be damage to the ignition switch caused by the reverse of polarity when the battery was connected backwards. Usually turning off the switch kills power to the ignition system. J

Sorry for your woes man but a lot of your gripes are performance related. Maybe you should have bought a bigger machine. You may be expecting too much out of the BX25. No matter what the issue at hand is, you will never be satisfied so I recommend you look at upgrading.

My new BX25 had the starting issue that was traced back to the ignition switch. It acted much similar to yours.. Take the switch apart and make sure the tension on the springs behind the contacts are strong enough to press them against the plates.

Odds are the ignition switch is corroded. Take it apart and clean it.
