    Abbreviations

Is there an official thread that lists abbreviations used on the forum, particularly the abbreviations used for implements and accessories? I figured out “SCwts” is suitcase weights, and “BB” is obviously box blade, but, for example, what are “4wPlow,RR,BP”?

    M5660 toolbox and chain carrier

Thanks for the ideas. I searched but didn’t find much. I like what you have done to that tool carrier.

    M5660 toolbox and chain carrier

I did look around the shop for one but finally had to break down and order it.

    M5660 toolbox and chain carrier

I considered using flattened expanded steel on the bottom but went with a solid plate with notches to let water drain out.

    M5660 toolbox and chain carrier

I was also trying to figure out a way to use an ammo can or one of those Apache (Pelican knockoff) boxes from HF but kept going back to the JD box because of the size and the ability to pull a pin and remove the box from the mount. The placement works out well because I can reach the box from...

    M5660 toolbox and chain carrier

The toolbox part number is RE275591 and the bracket is T23033. I got both items at the local JD dealer for about $100.

    M5660 toolbox and chain carrier

I figured it would void the warranty, but dang it, that little plastic box they put on that tractor is practically useless, and it won’t take long for the plastic hinge to break. Now I’m looking for a small cooler that I can mount in the space where the plastic tool box was. Or I may make a...

    M5660 toolbox and chain carrier

I also made a chain carrier and bolted it on using existing holes in the FEL mount. The 5x7 rectangular tube is 18 inches long and used to be the part of the tool bar on a JD 7000 4 row planter that was cut down to make a 2 row planter. Haven’t painted it yet because I may weld some tabs on the...

    M5660 toolbox and chain carrier

I looked around for a better toolbox for my M5660. Couldn’t find anything that I liked better than the toolboxes on our JDs, so I ordered one and made a bracket for it that bolts to existing holes behind the seat. I can reach in the toolbox from the seat and can see over it to the rear. The tray...

Help with a 5000 Ford air cleaner

This is the stuff that I couldn’t get cleaned out. So I drilled out the spot welds and disassembled it.

Help with a 5000 Ford air cleaner

When I removed the steel mesh it fell apart. I can get replacement steel mesh but I wonder how tight it needs to be wound and packed back into the canister to provide proper filtration. I know I’m overthinking this but if I make a reasonable attempt to do this right it’ll be better than the...

Help with a 5000 Ford air cleaner

Thanks for the replies. I bought one of the replacement assemblies made overseas and decided not to use it because of poor quality construction. I also looked at Donaldson and Fleetguard filter assemblies and after calculating the required size for the 5000 I cannot come up with a size and...

Help with a 5000 Ford air cleaner

I’ve posted this on AgTalk but I thought I would post here also if it’s ok. If not please delete. Has anyone rebuilt a Ford 5000 oil bath air cleaner or replaced it with a dry element type air cleaner? I have my grandfathers 5000 Ford. The oil bath air filter was in real bad shape. I tried...

    More New M5660SUHD questions

Update: @Auger01 The high pitched whine was definitely caused by the 4WD being engaged while running down the road in road gear. @North Idaho Wolfman I made the trip again and took the temp of the rear end with a Fluke IR thermometer and it was 130F and it felt hot so you were right about not...

    More New M5660SUHD questions

Update: Talked to some techs at the dealership. They said if the lift arms were all the way up and the “back feed lever” wasn’t adjusted correctly that the pump would continue to run against a dead head and the fluid would pass through a relief valve. I went home and raised and lowered the lift...

    New M5660SUHD questions

It’s used on the left side of an MX6000 and probably a lot of other models. I guess they decided that it worked better on the right side of an M5660. That’s how I figured out the correct part number, by looking at the handles on other tractors on the lot and the part numbers used on them.

    New M5660SUHD questions

Update: The wrong wires were plugged into the round amber hazard lights on the rear fenders. @mcfarmall sent me a screenshot of the wiring diagram for his M5660 (my WSM is on order). You dang near have to take the fenders off to access the wires underneath the “stay-lamp LH” (020) and “stay-lamp...
