    I'm no longer a virgin

I understand they never really seal at 100%, I was just referring to perspective of new vs older, higher hour engine. You have to understand, I am usually over cautious about things I will have to, or already have invested money in. I guess it's just the way I was raised by my dad since he...

    I'm no longer a virgin

And that becomes worse as the engine gets older and the rings no longer seal at 100% Another reason I am taking my time to give the engine the factory recommended break in.

    I'm no longer a virgin

Thanks. My concern with that is cylinder oil wash (the diesel washing the oil film off the cylinder wall) and oil dilution. And that is why I prefer fo minimize the frequency of regen. Raming a piston in a dry cylinder is not a good thing, it must be properly lubricated...:D

    I'm no longer a virgin

I know idling isn't going to damage anything, I just prefer to minimize the regens as much as possible. It is a simple matter to just keep the RPMs at around 1200 when standing instead of dropping all the way to idle. And the term seconds is an exaggeration on my part. Does anyone know how...

Just remember that the older it gets, the easier it is to maintain consistent throttle control. But unfortunately, sometimes the starter doesn't want to work anymore making a booster start necessary.

    I'm no longer a virgin

I've been running my new 2019 L4701 around 1700 to 2000 RPM max during the break-in hours. I never let it idle more than a couple of seconds. If I have to stop for a short time, I either shut down or run it at around 1200 RPM instead of dropping all the way to idle. The use so far has been...

    Using the chipper on evergreens

Oh Boy am I embarrassed. nbryan's post made me realize that I have been in error. I've been saying that I have a Woodmax. I had looked at Woodmax chippers (and even considered their flail mower at one time). However, I decided to go with a Woodland Mills chipper and that is what I have...

    Using the chipper on evergreens

I like the variable hydraulic feed, I can speed it up for smaller or softer wood or slow it down for hardwoods like oak and mesquite.

    Using the chipper on evergreens

To each their own, and it also depends on how much you plan to chip in a days work. All I can say, I've owned both and I'd NEVER buy a manual feed again. This also depends a little on how much you can afford to spend. My advice though, put the purchase off till you can get power feed, you...

    Using the chipper on evergreens

I received a Woodmax chipper a couple of months ago and have used it to get rid of tree trimmings up to about 4" diameter. A few years back I owned a Wallenstein "self feed". While the Wallenstein was OK, the self feed is only self feeding if you take the time to trim off all the little side...

Thanks for the help but how did you embed the image? Is there a way to upload larger, higher quality images?

Another view. Man it is difficult to get good pictures uploaded with the size limit (unless I'm doing something wrong.

    Tree grubber for backhoe

I decided the simplest route was to modify my existing 16" bucket. I took 1/2" tool steel I had lying around and made some angled pieces that are welded to the bucket cutting edge and the 2 outside teeth. I added a reinforcing gusset on top for durability. This wedges the root against the...

    Tree grubber for backhoe

I agree, I already thought about that and I'd love to find an old bucket that fits my BH92. But, so far, no luck finding one. If anyone knows where I can get one, please let me know. A 12" would be ideal. Kubota wants close to $800.

    Tree grubber for backhoe

Yesterday. Actually, I'm going to fab up a V shape cutting edge for my 16" bucket. It would be a simple matter except the bucket teeth are welded on instead of bolted on so I have to accommodate that. I did a little work with the bucket this morning as is. My soil is what is known as black...

    Tree grubber for backhoe

Yes, I'm thinking the only way I'll be able to get one for my BH92 is to fab it up myself. I don't have a CNC but I do have oxy/accet, plasma cutter, mig and AC/DC stick for some 7018. I've done lots of fab work formerly as an iron worker and metal shop foreman. I was just hopeful I could use...

    Tree grubber for backhoe

Has anyone found a manufacturer that makes tree grubbers that fit small backhoes? There are some available for excavators but I haven't been able to find one that will fit my BH92. This is a photo of what I'm talking about

    Speaking about hot...

Wait, wasn't this topic "Speaking about hot"? I cannot even think about heating yet. But on that subject, about 6 years ago I had an efficient wood burning stove installed in my living room. I then installed a blower system in the attic that draws heat from above the stove and blows it into...
