    Why are trucks so big?

Couldn't agree more! But have you ever seen an F150 or a 1500 at a dealership with an 8' box? Rare as hens teeth! Pretty much a custom order - and they come with only a single cab, no extended cab or crew cab versions. And a word of advice for those who have vehicles with winches....test...

    Why are trucks so big?

And I don't see any reason to use 1 gallon containers when all the vehicles I own hold at least 6 quarts. For many years I've used a 5 gallon bucket with a lid that has both a spout and a vent included. Stick the oil drain hose from the Fumoto valve down into the spout and the oil drain...

    Why are trucks so big?

Because some of us need a WORK truck, not just a grocery hauler.

Photo shoot anything lately? Random Photo Thread

They are everywhere around here. I bet I have a hundred of them within 50 feet of the house right now. My neighbors report the same. This flock is within a few feet of my house, next to the lilacs and roses. Usurping my recliner in the yard: Perching on the handrail around my deck:

When there is snow on the ground I put out birdseed onto my covered deck for the quail. But the rabbits join right in and eat the birdseed also. Blurry shot - taken before sunrise so it was pretty dark.

I've used the winch on my Jeep far more for moving trees off the road than I ever used it for vehicle recoveries.

How long did your battery last?

Some years ago I had the same problem - barn with no power. I found a solar powered battery maintainer with a 15w solar panel and controller and installed the solar panel on the roof of my barn. It has kept the battery on my Miller welder topped off...looked at it the other day and the date I...

Yup. Most people assume that because we are talking "canyon", this is low desert terrain. But the South Rim of the Grand Canyon is around 7000 feet in elevation and the North Rim is about 1000 feet higher, around 8000 feet. The road to the Lodge at the North Rim doesn't even open till mid-May...

Photo shoot anything lately? Random Photo Thread

50 years ago I visited both South and North Rims for the first time. After that it got so crowded I began exploring the lesser-known parts of Grand Canyon, mainly those accessible from the Arizona Strip (that part of Arizona north of the Grand Canyon). After the roads have dried out (dirt...

I have a whole slew of Nikon film cameras down in the basement. Started with a Nikon F bought while I was in Vietnam. But once I discovered digital I felt I was "freed". No more limiting myself to the number of photos I take...is the roll 24 exposure or 36? Is the ASA of the film high enough...

    No end to BS

Unfortunately some of us don't have a choice. I've lived in my current location for 31 years now. The nearest town has a Wells Fargo, and through the years there have been numerous other banks set up shop, only to close down a year or two later. Only Wells Fargo has remained constant. Same...

    New Tractor Tugger

NOT the old V10 6.8. That one hasn't been offered in pickups for a while. This one is a V8 and has a pretty good reputation...a downsized version of the 7.3 gas engine.

Anybody have any experience with a AFM eliminator?

For the older ones that's correct. But starting in 2021 all the F150 V8 models have it also. https://trucksauthority.com/does-ford-f-150-have-cylinder-deactivation/

In search of a better truck for towing the M6060 and folding cutter.

Not necessarily. People's situations change and so they make the necessary changes to accommodate the new situation. Two years ago I bought a 2022 Toyota 4Runner with just under 3000 miles on the odometer. It was at a Nissan dealership and whoever owned it apparently realized a 4Runner isn't...

In search of a better truck for towing the M6060 and folding cutter.

They are all starting to include aluminum body panels. I seem to remember that the new GM trucks now have aluminum doors and hood. The main benefit to aluminum bodies is to those who live where the roads are salted in the winter. I watched a comparison not long ago where various brands of...
