MX4800 HST oil change…go synthetic or stay with Kubota brand?

It is time to change the engine oil in my mx4800. The machine has 1200 hours and poor historical records on types of fluids used when serving the machine but there are no known issues, no leaks, no fuel consumption etc. I do not know what type or viscosity oil the previous owner used, I just know it is time to change it.

is there any real point in using one oil over another assuming that the correct viscosity is chosen? I live in NC so we see hot and cold but the tractor stays in an enclosed barn so it probably won’t see “cold start” temps much below 50 unless it is left outside in winter for some reason so I plan to use 15w40 as per the manual...only question is which one?

Which one? Whatever suits you as long as it's for a diesel engine.

I just switched to T6 Rotella. 15w40. In my B2650 with 304 hours on it. I was using reg 15w40 I asked my mechanic about it before I switched and he said as long as it’s a high quality oil. Your fine. And Rotella is a good oil

There is STILL bad rep on synthetic oils - from break ins, to switching etc.

I use synthetics in everything - Mobil 1, T6 and Amsoil.

There really is NO reason NOT to use synthetic oil.

This guy has forgot more about oil than most know - he does it the old fashion way - via science!!!

I don't believe I have ever had one of those!!

I know! There’s a chance even by just putting in the 15 W 40 Kabota stuff from the dealership that something goes sideways! Nobody knows what magic juice is in this engine and I did just notice that one of the copper gaskets is missing from the oil drain plug and it’s not even leaking there lol.

Did you read carefully what you typed and I highlighted in red?

I think the factory fill is 10W30 conventional oil.
Good enough for Kubota,good enough for me.

I use Rotella in all my diesels, but if it makes you feel better, the Kubota oil should be just fine.

I have switched from T3 to T4 to T6 depending on what deals I find. I have never had an oil related failure of any sort.

IMHO most/all "diesel rated" oils will be just fine.

Synthetic engine oils outperform conventional oils. Thats a simple fact.

Whether the gain is worth the added expense is a personal decision only you can make.

I went for it. I picked up Shell Rotella T6 15W40 for $1 less per gallon than the Kubota conventional oil!
