Don't have an ax, so I'll be using a saws all with a blade for limbs, wash it with alcohol and then soap and water. As I said the one that started this mess is about 5-6" in diameter, no way I could cut that with an ax, the Paul Bunyan left my body about 40 years ago.Cut a 1’ section near the base. That will kill it. Whatever else you do won’t help or hurt, but removing the 1’ section as you are planning will kill it. Even if you’re allergic, that’s pretty easy with a bush axe. One hard hit high, another low, push the blade in sideways between the vine and tree, then twist to pop out the 1’ section. If you don’t remove the 1’ section, sometimes it will survive. You get to stay about 3’ away throughout the process.
Keep the bush axe head down in a bucket if you carry it in a vehicle. Wash the bush axe and bucket before putting them away. That method has worked for me for the last few decades.
Hate your wife is so bad off with it. Hopefully they’ll get her enough steroids to get her back to normal quickly.
Edit: Definitely don’t saw it if you’re allergic at all.
Got any other tips I'd be glad to hear them.
