That's about how I paint implements too, even some tractor areas. These are tools not collectibles, and the last time I checked there is no Concours d’Elegance for tractor implements. 😂
Haha exactly, its just not worth the time when I know whats gonna happen to it. When I first got the tractor I was pretty irritated when I scratched it. Now that I've accepted that its gonna keep happening so just throw some paint on it and call it good - especially for implements. My hood is all scratched up from the bottom of my diesel can having a tiny pebble stuck to it, that is the one spot that still bothers me, but with how well that paint matched I may just buy a quart of it and use a tiny paintbrush if im bored one day to fill in the scratches.

Dodged a bullet yesterday. Got a frantic call from my son at the woodlot during a thunderstorm that the diesel transfer tank shed has tipped over in the wind. Rushed up there and sure enough, tank was upside down. Miraculously, not a drop of diesel spilled. That cap has a gasket that did its job. By the time i got there, he had the KX033 in position. Fortunately, I had reinforced the pallet and bolted the tank to the substructure. Chains around the pallet and backed ever so slowly. Flipped it upright. Not a scratch on the tank or pump assembly. The roof supports were split but I count myself lucky. Estimated 60 gallons in the 100 gallon tank. Could have been a terrible mess. Will relocate or anchor down pallet this weekend. So many lessons learned in developing the farm.
Glad it was a positive turnout. It must of been really windy to tip it over.

I recently bought a QH20 for the M6060 and it was shipped in a container to the local dealer at no charge to me. It came with a bunch of other stuff and there were a couple of areas where the paint was scraped off. Not large areas but two or three places, but it's a tool, an expensive tool for sure, but big deal! I did some touch up with Kubota branded orange and didn't mask off the fancy QH20 logo. The 0 was already damaged a little and it's just fluff so I choose to focus on the important stuff such as reducing the chance of significant corrosion.

Quick Hitches and implements have a hard life with me and I take care of stuff as needed, but only as much as is needed to keep the implement in good working condition.

I removed the chains and snow blower from my tractor today.
I tried to spread some dirty today but it was still to wet.
Yep, still mud season in my corner of NH as well.

Glad you recovered your tank w/o issue - that is good ! Your roof makes a pretty good sail. If you just anchor the bottom just the roof may get ripped off next time. Don't ask how I know this.

Thanks,. Made the roof large so it would shield tank from wx. We are near the apex of a hill, so I should have anticipated the wind however. More storms today. I'll pull the mini-ex up along side and use straps/chains to anchor it until I can come with a better solution. Idea was for this to be "portable" using the forks. For starters, I can shortened the uprights to bring the roof down a bit. Less head room but also less leverage/torque from wind. Uprights are damaged at the roof connections so need to do this in any case. But will rain next few days. To quote Roseanne Roseannadanna.... "it's always something..."

Would a shallower angle of the roof reduce the wind load?

And maybe move the whole fuel tank a bit further downwind from your PV panels as well.

I have no idea if you can install anchors in the dirt but they make some significant types to drive or screw into the earth, some may be able to screw into rock if that is your “soil”.

See earth screws, helical piles, earth anchors, arrowhead and bullet anchors.

If you use the type that support the structure then you could use some type of removable pin through the floor support structure.

Care and painting: The Kubota is stored inside and taken very good care of both mechanically and cosmetically. It usually gets service done earlier than what is called for. It is generally kept clean, gets pressure-washed after being out on the salted roads in Winter and gets waxed twice a year.

The Ford is well-maintained mechanically but it is almost never washed and hasn't been waxed during my ownership (since 1991-ish). I repainted it in 2002 and it should be done again now that it is no longer stored outdoors.

Implements are maintained mechanically. A couple mowers have been rebuilt and repainted. Some implements haven't had much residual paint for years and a few homemade implements never saw any paint.

I decided to add some liquid weight to my rear tires, since I only use it in warm weather, I just put in water ... The Rim Guard site said that these tires would hold 50 gallons at the 75% fill level, I wanted to try it at 25% to see how it goes, plus if it works and I don't need anymore, then I'll just leave the valve stem in the upper half of the rim during its timed parked for winter, so no chance of ice messing up the valve ...

I rolled it until the valve stem was roughly at 7:30 position, I put a floor jack under it, then pulled the valve core out, I let it down until the side wall bulged, thinking the water pressure wouldn't have to be let out as often.

IMG_20260416_151740759.jpg

Once I got some water pressure in it, The tire lifted and I bumped the jack up, then disconnected the hose to let some pressure out ...

IMG_20260416_152025375.jpg

Once it was as full as I wanted, I let the excess water drain out, pulled the adapter off, then put the valve core back in, and blew it up to 10 PSI.

Are you letting the water freeze during the winter?

Something different today - I did something with the tractor rather than doing something for the tractor.

We're dismantling an old chook shed and a fence around a vege garden. The tractor called in handy for pulling out posts and also moving some rocks.

Only 4 loads so far - definitely easier than a wheelbarrow.

We've got some landscaping to do and a new vege garden to prepare, so a bit more tractor use coming up.

Thanks Russell. Yes. Know about those. I had planned on keeping this "portable" as we are still stumping, sifting and cleaning up for fields and orchards eventually. Well, septic and high tunnel going in this year. Once I have an equipment shed or barn, I'll set the tank in there. In the interim, I used my mini-ex as a "paperweight" to strapdown the tank setup. More t-storms last night and more coming today. No relief from mud season yet.

Yes, that's the plan, I can't imagine it will hurt anything if it's only the bottom quarter with water, it will expand a bit, but plenty of room for expansion in there ...

That's why I'll park it with the valve stem up, higher than the water level.

I filled my Z-turn to 75% a few years ago, it does sit in my attached insulated garage, but it's not heated, and gets below freezing when it goes below zero for a few days ...

Haha, yeah. A few bits of steel, some welds, a coat of paint, hydraulic cylinders and hoses, a valve....instant loader.
Yes, that's what it basically is, you make it sound easy. But I know it is not. And it takes a lot of time.

I am slowly beginning to realise that my remaining life time may be too short to finish all the projects 🤣

Greased the blower and tractor. Gave the chute, drum and fan a quick squirt of paint to keep the rust at bay. She's dirty, I'll give it a quick bath tomorrow to at least get the windows clean.

Not sure if this is the right forum to ask this, but I have been looking at dump trailers for my farm. I was originally thinking of a 6x10, but the cost to move up to a 7x12 isn’t that much more. My Durand could pull either, but the bigger trailer is rated at 12000 lb. and someone told me that in NJ, I could only have a trailer rated at 9900 lb. Not sure if that is true.

I would use this trailer for moving material (soil, manure, stone). I’m not so concerned about the price difference, but I don’t want something too big (or too small). lol. Is the smaller trailer a better fit for a small farm (23 acres).
